James Walter Davis

James Walter Davis, 65, of Cameron, died Monday, May 1, 2017, at his home.

Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at Rice Cemetery near Cameron with Chaplain Tim Rudolph officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home.

Mr. Davis was born October 27, 1951, in Redding, Calif., to George and Frances Emily (Grist) Davis.  He was a U. S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam conflict. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Davis; and a grandson, Tyler Smith.  He is survived by his son, Garrett Davis of Georgetown; daughter, Elizabeth Kuykendall of Cameron; sister, Barbara Smith of Chico, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron is in charge of arrangements.

Carl Ray Nelson

Carl Ray Nelson, 84, of Buckholts died Monday, May 1, 2017, in a Waco hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Tim Cheatham officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10 a.m. until service time.

Mr. Nelson was born June 12, 1932, in Brookville, Pa., to Victor G. and Margaret Catherine (Shilling) Nelson. He service in the U. S. Air Force.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cameron. 

His wife Peggy preceded him in death in 2009. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard, and sister, Margaret Louise Nelson. 

He is survived by his son, Joel Nelson of Buckholts; daughter, Rebecca Thompson of Waco; brother, Clair Nelson of Latrobe, Pa.; sister, Anna Mae Stoltenberg of Oil City, Pa.; and two grandchildren, Creighton Thompson and Lauren Thompson.

Earnest Lee Osband

Funeral Services for Mr. Earnest Lee Osband will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2107, at 11 a.m. at the First Assembly of God Church, located at 1511 N. Houston Ave. in Cameron.

Burial will follow at Little Rocky Cemetery in Cameron. Mr. Osband will lie in state at the church on Saturday morning from 9:30 until time of services.

Robertson Funeral Home in Marlin, Texas are in charge of arrangements.

Lee Roy Stecher

Lee Roy Stecher, long-time resident of Star Harbor, Malakoff, Texas, passed away on April 8, 2017.  

Lee Roy Stecher was born on Feb. 11, 1926, in Cameron to Leo Stecher and Ottilie Marak Stecher. He graduated from Yoe High School in 1944, where he lettered on the Cameron Yoe football team. He served in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater on the U.S.S. Mendocino. After World War II, he moved to Dallas and studied at Draughon’s Business College, where he learned the valuable skill of keeping financial books.

He met Carmen Crespo, who had just moved to Texas from Tampa, Fla. They married on July 3, 1948, at St. Edward’s in Dallas. 

Lee began his career as a bookkeeper at Austin Paving Company, which evolved into Austin Industries in Dallas, Texas.  Lee Roy worked there for 41 years, moving up the ranks to become its Secretary-Treasurer and chief financial officer.

Ethel Moraw

Ethel Moraw, 99, of Rosebud, died Thursday, April 13, 2017, in a Cameron Nursing Home. 

Rosary will be recited at 11 a.m. Monday in Cook-Gerngross-Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Rosebud. Rev. Edwin Kagoo officiating. Burial will follow in Woodland Cemetery in Rosebud.

Mrs. Moraw was born September 24, 1917, in Barclay to Robert and Essie  Pollei Lueck. She lived in Bell, Milam and Falls Counties all of her life. She graduated from Barclay High School in 1933. She worked at the Candy Kitchen Pharmacy in Rosebud and Torbet-Hutchings-Smith Hospital in Marlin. She was a member of  St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Burlington and St. Michael’s Altar Society.

She was preceded in death by four husbands, Anthony John (Tony) Hollien Sr., Charles  Kleypas, Clarence Tallent, and Willie Moraw; her son, Anthony John Hollien Jr., two sisters, Gloria Eller and Esher Lueck; and step-son, Robert Moraw.

Addie Lee Winfrey

Addie Lee Winfrey, 102, of Davilla, left this world for her heavenly home on Tuesday morning, April 4, 2017, in the Will-O-Bell Nursing Home in Bartlett.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m., Friday, April 7, 2017. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale and burial in the Davilla Cemetery. Pastor David Cox of the Davilla Baptist Church will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, April 6, 2017, at the funeral home.

Addie Lee, one of four children, was born July 23, 1914, in Lee County, Texas, to Jacob C. and Maggie M. (Shaver) Cargill. On March 14, 1932, she and Ernest C. Winfrey were married near Granger, Texas. There were five daughters born to this union. She has lived in Davilla since 1944. She was a Christian homemaker and loving mother.

Ernest Frank Fuchs III

Ernest Frank Fuchs III, 88, of Hillsboro passed away Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Town Hall Estates in Hillsboro. 

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hillsboro with Rev. Michael Nemec officiating. Burial will follow at Hope Lutheran Memorial Park in Buckholts.  Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, April 10, at Marshall & Marshall Funeral Directors in Hillsboro.

Jo Ann Biskup

Jo Ann Biskup, of San Antonio, passed away quietly in a hospital in Sugar Land on March 30 after complications following surgery. 

Jo Ann was born Sept. 15, 1937, in Osceola, and raised in Bryan, and Frankfurt, Germany.  She lived in Houston for 40 years and after retirement moved to Lake McQueeny, Schertz, and then to San Antonio in 2017 where she resided until her death. 

Jo Ann is preceded in death by her parents, James and Ann Coody of Cameron; brother, James Lawrence Coody, and James Coody; and her beloved dog for 17 years, Heidi.

Mary Pearl Angell

Mary Pearl Angell, 76, of Temple and formerly of Cameron, died Tuesday, April 4, 2017, in Temple. 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Walkers Creek Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. Tim Cheatham officiating. Burial will follow in the Walkers Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mrs. Angell was born April 24, 1940, in Milam County to Ernest and Beulah Magnolia Reed. She married Richard E. “Gene” Angell in Texarkana, Ark., on July 16, 1957, and he preceded her in death. She and Gene farmed for many years. Later, she had worked at several restaurants in Cameron. Mrs. Angell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cameron. 

She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
