Ida Mae "Susie" Simpson Pope

Graveside Funeral services for Mrs. Ida Mae “Susie” Simpson Pope, age 91, of Beaumont,  formerly of Sour Lake and Cameron,  will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron, with Reverend Billy Crow officiating.

Mrs. Pope was born on Oct. 9, 1925, in Old Olive, Texas, to Artie Misha Dosier and John Henry Simpson. She passed away March 28.

Mrs. Pope was preceded in death by her husband Joseph A. Pope in 1996.

Survivors include: her son, Joseph C. Pope and wife Marion of Sugar Land; and daughter,  Misha Pope Bruno and husband Shawn of Beaumont. She is also survived by grandchildren, Justin A. Pope and Natasha A Pope.

The family suggests donations to The Alzheimers Association

Visitation will be held Saturday at the Oak Hill Cemetery Pavilion from 12-1 p.m.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Green-Patterson Funeral Home.

Edmund Larry Tiemann

Edmund Larry Tiemann, 70, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 28, 2017.

Larry was born July 27, 1946, in Taylor, to Edmund Henry and Ruby Moerbe Tiemann. He attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale where he was baptized and confirmed. He graduated from Thorndale High School in 1964. After graduation, he worked along with his father at Tiemann Garage. He joined the U.S. Army in 1965, and served until 1968, with a one year tour in Vietnam.

On Sept. 13, 1969, he married Betty Symank. They were blessed with three children, Sherri, Jason, and Sheila. He was employed with Alcoa for 33 ½ years before taking retirement. He was an active member of the Thorndale Volunteer Fire Department until his death, being chosen as Fireman of the Year on one occasion. He enjoyed barbeque cookoffs, rattlesnake handling, attending car races, deer hunting, and had a passion for Ford vehicles.

Ronald Joe "Cowboy" Dillinger

Ronald Joe “Cowboy” Dillinger, 75, of Cameron died Saturday, March 18, 2017, in a Temple hospital. 

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Cowboy, a retired painter and carpenter, was born May 16, 1941, in Ohio to George W. and Eleanor A. (Decker) Dillinger. He moved to Cameron in 1981 and married Shirley Rogers and she preceded him in death in 1999. 

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard L. Dillinger and Willard Dillinger. He is survived by numerous friends and special friend, Crystal Nelson.

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron is in charge of arrangements.

Rudolfo "Rudy" Rangel

Mr. Rudolfo “Rudy” Rangel died Sunday, March 26, at a Temple hospital.

A visitation for Mr. Rangel will be held Thursday, March 30, from 6-8 p.m. at Green-Patterson Funeral Home.

Mr. Rangel was born April 12, 1964, in Memphis to Juan and Juanita Juarez Rangel. He was employed by the City of Cameron.  He was a Baptist.

Survivors include: his wife, Delores Tijerina of Cameron; mother, Juanita Rangel of Cameron; two sons, Richard Vargas and Rudolfo Orlando Rangel, both of Cameron; daughter, Corina Rangel of Cameron; four brothers: Ines Rangel of Cameron, Juan Rangel Jr. of Temple, Randy Rangel of Cameron and Gabriel Rangel of Cameron; three sisters, Olga Rodriguez of Cameron, Dora Rodriguez of Okeene, Okla. and Rachel Avila of Buckholts. Also surviving are seven grandchildren.

Bertha Jean Proctor

Bertha Jean Proctor, 69, of Cameron died Monday, March 20, 2017, in a Temple hospital. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Ms. Proctor was born January 8, 1948, in Milam County to Lonnie and Bertha (King) Gaines. She had worked as a nurse’s aide at Cameron Nursing Center for many years.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Proctor; and by a sister, Judy Sawyer.  She is survived by: sons, Jimmy Proctor of Austin and Anthony Proctor of Buckholts; daughters, Sheila Mireles and husband Sergio of Rockdale and Amy Abila and husband Michael of Buckholts; brother, David Gaines of Maysfield; sisters, Paulette Gossick of Elgin, Brenda Roe of Rockdale, and Renee Gaines of Cameron; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren

Norvell Dean Ewing

Norvell Dean Ewing passed away on March 19, 2017, at the VA Hospital. 

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Basilio Montez officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hernandez Cemetery.  Visitation will be Thursday from 5-8 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with a Wake service starting at 7.

He was born May 27, 1933, to Albert J. and Clara M, Johnson Ewing, in Topeka, Kan. Norvell attended school in Topeka, Kan. He began his career in the U.S Army, Ft. Riley, Kan. He served in Vietnam. Norvell retired from the Military as a Staff Sergeant at 22 years of service. He also drove for the Cameron Senior Citizen for many years also worked for the city of Temple.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Albert J. Ewing; sisters, Jean L. Clay, Reita L. Ewing, Marvenn M Smith, and Clara A. Moss.

Frances Hembree Johnson

Frances Hembree Johnson, 83, of Cameron died Monday, March 20, 2017, in a Cameron nursing and rehab center. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church with Rev. Dimitrij Colankin officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Monica’s Cemetery.  Rosary will be recited 6:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Monica’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Johnson, a retired teacher’s aide for Cameron ISD, was born March 9, 1934, in Austin to Joel Franklin andFrances Cecelia (Gorzycki) Hembree.  She married John Johnson on June 18, 1960, and was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church. 

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carmen Johnson; a brother Joel Hembree Jr.; and a sister, Elizabeth Stomp.  

She is survived by: her husband, John Johnson of Cameron; her son, Malcolm Edward Johnson and wife Peggy Jo of Bryan; her sister, Rose Marie Shepherd of Paris; and granddaughter, Belynda Marie Johnson of College Station.

Glen West

Glen West, 74, was born Nov. 12, 1942, in Burnet, and left this physical world, March 17, 2017.

Glen married Elaine Kerwin West on Jan.25, 1969, and loved her throughout her life. Glen was blessed to have Patsy Davidson as his companion and best friend for the past ten years.

Glen loved coaching football and teaching at Thorndale High School where he was the defensive coordinator for three football State Championships and assistant coach for one baseball State Championship. He raised, showed and judged Registered Longhorn Cattle and loved being outdoors.  He also loved to write poetry.

Glen served our country in the United States Army before graduating from the University of Texas, Austin.

Glen was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; parents, Charley and Eleanor West; and brother, Billy “Rusty” West.

Dorsie Mae Smith Ferguson Wilson

Dorsie Mae Smith Ferguson Wilson, 96, of Gause, passed away Tuesday, March 7, 2017, in Hearne.

Visitation was held from 1-6 p.m. Friday, March 10, 2017, at Glenn Mack Funeral Home in Hearne.

A Celebration of Life honoring Dorsie Wilson was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2017, at Stephen Chapel AME Church in Gause. Rev. Linda Wallace was pastor and eulogist. Interment was in Gause Peaceful Rest Cemetery.

Janet Ann Evan

Janet Ann Evan, 67, of Cameron, died Sunday, March 19, 2017, surrounded by her children, under Hospice Care in Bryan.

Visitation will be at Marek, Burns & Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron on Wednesday, March 22, from 5-8 p.m. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

Jan was born Jan. 13, 1950, in Burlington, N.J., to Ernest Cornelius and Agnes Rosiline (Zahurance) Twist. She married Robert (Shorty) Evan on Feb. 23, 1968, and was married for 39 years until preceding her in death in 2007. Together they had two children, Tracy L. Krause of Bryan, and  Christopher Evan of Hearne.

Jan was a woman who spent her entire life putting others before herself, in a lifelong career as a nurse before retiring from the Temple VA Hospital in 2010.
