Ruth “Cuca” Hernandez

“Lord, I am not worth that you should enter under my roof, but only say the Word and my soul shall be healed.”

Ruth “Cuca” Hernandez, 87, of Bryan went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on Sunday at her home. 

Services are set for 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bryan where Monsignor John McCaffrey will officiate. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation was from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the church with a 7 p.m. rosary.

Richard Jeremiah Ramirez

Richard Jeremiah Ramirez, 27, of Cameron died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016 in Temple.  

Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. Mateo Lopez officiating.  Burial followed in the Hernandez Cemetery.  Visitation was held Friday at the funeral home.

Mr. Ramirez, a forklift driver, was born June 15, 1989, in Cameron to Esteban and Patricia (Aguillon) Ramirez.  He married Cecilia Perez. 

Preceded in death by his parents, Mr. Ramirez is survived by: his wife, Cecilia Ramirez; sons, Nathaniel Perez and Adrian Ramirez; daughters, Isabella Ramirez and Alyana Ramirez; grandparents, Isabel Ramirez and Mary Aguillon; stepmother, Michelle Ramirez Towery; stepfather, Paul Hernandez; brothers, Steven Ramirez, Xavier Ramirez and Simon Ramirez; and sisters, April Ramirez and Leticia Hernandez.

Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home of Cameron is in charge of arrangements.

Ysabel Ramirez

Ysabel (Garcia) Ramirez, 92, of Belton passed away at her home in Belton on Monday, Sept. 11, 2016.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016, at 10 a.m. at Christ The King Catholic Church in Belton with Father Kim officiating. Burial will follow in North Belton Cemetery in Belton.

Ysabel was born on Nov. 1, 1923, in Yoakum, to Agustin and Alejandra (Maciel) Garcia. She married Esteban Ramirez Sr. on Dec. 20, 1939, in Fort Stockton. They were married for 67 years before he passed away in 2007. Mrs. Ramirez worked as a seamstress at American Desk and J.M. Woods in Temple before retirement. She was a member of Christ The King Catholic Church in Belton for many years. 

Mrs. Ramirez was preceded in death by her parents, husband Esteban, and a son Erasmo Ramirez.

Estelle “Patsy” Marie Elliott Price

Price

Estelle “Patsy” Marie Elliott Price, 88, of Cameron, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Aug. 31, 2016.  

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Chaplain Bruce Mercer officiating. Family visitation will be prior to the funeral service on Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.

Mrs. Price, a homemaker, was born June 22, 1928, in Cameron to Nathan Monroe and Dena (Ayers) Elliott. She married Dwight M. Price Jr. on Dec. 27, 1948, who preceded her in death in 2006. She was a member of First Christian Church in Cameron. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Ernest (Speck) Elliott, Marvin (Jack) Elliott, J. K. (Jake) Elliott and sister, Pansy Tucker.

Kevin Randolph Harmon

Kevin Harmon

Kevin Randolph Harmon, 69, of Cameron, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, at his home after a brief illness.  

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, 2016, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Kirk and Rev. Dusty Smith officiating. Burial will follow in  Greathouse Cemetery in Temple.  

Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Kevin was born May 7, 1947, at Ft. Knox, Ky.,  to Donald Earl and Elizabeth Martha (Leutert) Harmon. He graduated from Copperas Cove High School in 1965, attended Temple Junior College, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy degree from the University of Texas Austin in 1972.

Mary Corbin

Mary Corbin, 93, of Cameron, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, in a Cameron hospital.  Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, at the Oak Hill Pavilion with Rev. Tim Cheatham officiating.  Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Corbin, a homemaker, was born May 3, 1923 in Middlesbrough, England to George and Amy (Robinson) Lund. 

She married Monroe Corbin and he preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by a son, William, “Bill” Corbin. 

She is survived by her sons Terry Corbin and wife Sandra of Cameron and Chris Corbin of Cameron; several brothers and sisters; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Gary William Biskup

Gary William Biskup, 71, left this world on Aug. 19, 2016, to find peace and joy in his heavenly home. The funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at 11a.m. at the Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. A private family burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. 

Visitation with the family was held Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gary was born on Feb. 24, 1945, in Bellville, Texas, to Emil and Clara (Kaliszewski) Biskup.  e attended Yoe High School. 

After high school, Gary married Brigitte Turner in 1965, and they had two children Kelli and Gary. He was a faithful employee to Alcoa and retired in 2008 after 38 years of dedicated work.

Custodio Barcenas-Hernandez 

Custodio Barcenas-Hernandez, 70, of Cameron died Friday, Aug. 19, 2016. Memorial services were held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Chapel.  His body will then be shipped to Mexico for burial.

Mr. Barcenas, a laborer, was born June 14, 1946, in Mexico to Melquiacles Barcenas and Ma. De la lus Hernandez. He married Juana Rodriguez. He is survived by his wife, Juana Barcenas of Pettibone; son, Gustavo Barcenas of Pettibone; daughters, Norma Barcenas, Maria De la Rosario and Mariela Barcenas, all of Pettibone; four grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters in Mexico.

Bill T. Avrett

Bill T. Avrett, 84 of Rockdale, passed away the morning of Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, in Lorena. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 25, 2016 at St. John’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Adam Straznicky officiating and burial following at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation was from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home.

Bill was born May 15, 1932, in the Pleasant Hill Community to Ray and Elizabeth (Ralston) Avrett. He attended Thorndale High School where he graduated valedictorian. Bill then received his BBA from the University of Texas and served in the United States Air Force for 4 and a half years during the Korean War, before being honorably discharged.

Susan Rosson

Susan Rosson

Susan Rosson, 85, of Cameron died Friday, Aug. 12, 2016 in a Waco hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, at the First United Methodist Church in Cameron with Rev. Geoff Lightsey officiating. 

Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to service time at the church.

Ms. Rosson, a retired school teacher, was born in Cameron on Aug. 12, 1931 to John W. and Ruth (Coleman) Rosson. She graduated from C. H. Yoe High School in 1948, received her undergraduate degree from Southwestern University in Georgetown and her master of science degree in education from Baylor University. 

Her teaching career spanned 45 years, primarily in Cameron where she taught senior English and was the National Honor Society Sponsor.
