William Robert Layne

William (Bill) Robert Layne, of Gause, passed away peacefully at Temple Scott & White Hospital Sept. 27, 2018.  

Bill was born July 18, 1946m in Houston, to Herman Layne and Opal Belle (Layne) Fisher.  After the marriage of Harold and Opal Bill was adopted by Harold Blaine Fisher and the family resided in Houston. 

Bill served in the USMCR from1964 until 1972. He retired from Dupont in Chattanooga, Tenn., after 15 years then returned to Houston where he worked for the Fisher Company, a family owned surveying company.  Upon moving to Gause, he worked for MHMR and the Milam County Sheriff’s Office as a jailer.  After his retirement he enjoyed family and friends and keeping up with the Houston Astros.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Layne; Opal and Harold Fisher; and his brother, Darrell Glenn Fisher.

Billy Jean Scheler

A memorial service for Billy Jean Scheler will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church at 518 E Gassaway in Lott. Burial will follow with immediate family at Clover Hill Cemetery.

Born to Herman and Lillie Scheler on Oct. 20, 1953, in Cameron. At the age of 64, he went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sept. 19, 2018.

He was preceeded in death by his mother; father; brother, Herman Scheler Jr.; and sister, Shirley Tenery.

Shirley Ann Rinn

Shirley Ann Rinn, 83, of Cameron, died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018, in a Cameron nursing facility. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mrs. Rinn, a homemaker was born Sept. 16, 1935, in Houston to Bill and Theresa Sandoski. She was raise in the Catholic Church. She loved her family dearly and loved to cook for family gatherings and was always a gracious hostess.  She took great pride in her beautiful garden and lovely home. She loved to travel. Some of her favorite places were San Francisco where she saw Phantom of the Opera and Martha’s Vinyard. Lighthouses and covered bridges were very special places to her. She married Henry Dell Rinn and he preceded her in death.

Marion Hutchinson

Marion Hutchinson, 90, of Cameron died Monday, Sept. 24, 2018, in a Cameron nursing and rehab center. 

Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 27, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with Rev. John Self officiating. Burial will follow in the Salado Cemetery in Salado. Visitation was held prior to service at the funeral home.

Ms. Hutchinson was born Dec. 28, 1827, in Prairiedell Texas to Clarence W. and Emma Ola (Wills) Hutchinson. She retired from Royal Seating Manufacturing in Cameron. 

She was preceded in death by eight siblings and is survived by nieces and nephews.

Otilia B. Svetlik

Otilia B. Svetlik, 95, of Buckholts died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2018, in a Temple nursing and rehab center.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Marak with Rev. Darrell Kostiha officiating. Burial will follow in the Hope Lutheran Memorial Park in Buckholts. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mrs. Svetlik was born on Feb. 16, 1923, in Maraksville community of Milam County to  Rudolph Will and Augustina (Kubecka) Kostroun. She married Elbert Svetlik on Nov. 24, 1956, and he preceded her in death. She had worked as a farmer and store clerk. She was a member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church.

She was also preceded in death by one sister and three brothers. 

She is survived by: son, Elbert William Svetlik of Buckholts; daughter, Eleanor Solomon of Buckholts; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Carlos Rodriguez

Carlos Rodriguez, 83, of Troy and formerly of Cameron, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, at his home. 

Family visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 30, from 6-8 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home with a rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Private family burial will be in Hernandez Cemetery at a later date.

Mr. Rodriguez, a retired bartender, was born Jan. 10, 1935, in Cameron to David and Felipa (Vargas) Esquivel. He was a Catholic.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Consuelo Esquivel and Isabel Rivera. 

He is survived by: brothers, Paul Rodriguez of California and Ignacio Rodriguez of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Irene Gonzales

Mrs. Irene Gonzales, 67, of Cameron, passed away Thursday, Sept. 20, in a Temple hospital. 

Services for Mrs. Gonzales will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron, with Robert Solorio officiating. Burial will follow in the Hernandez Cemetery.

Mrs. Gonzales was born July 3, 1951, in Maysfield to Santos and Julia Aguillon Tena. She was married to Jesse Jesus Gonzales. He preceded her in death in 2004. Mrs. Gonzales was a volunteer at a nursing home. She was a Christian and a member of the Templo De Alabanza Church.

Survivors include: sons, Jesse Gonzales Jr., Joe Angel Gonzales Sr. and wife Teresa, all of Cameron, Roman Gonzales and wife Becky of Little River Academy, and Brian and wife Jamie Gonzales of Rogers; daughters, April Compean and husband Gabriel Sr. of Moody, Brenda Govea and husband Eddie of Temple and Wendy Gonzales of Buckholts.

Polly Lynn Hauk

Polly Lynn Hauk, 56, of Cameron died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2018, at her home.  Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Clarkson Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Sept. 23, from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Polly, a community service supervisor for the Milam County Adult Probation Office, was born Jan. 25, 1962, in Cameron to Victor Walter (VW) and Anita (Ocker) Hauk. 

She is survived by: brothers, Larry Hauk of Copperas Cove and Donald Hauk of Cameron; and sister, Marilyn Hauk of California.

Charles Howard Helmer

Charles Howard Helmer, 87, of the Sharp Community in Milam County, died Saturday, Sept. 15, 2018, at his home. 

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Sharp Cemetery.

Mr. Helmer, a retired machinist, was born Nov. 21, 1930, in Houston to Samuel and Maudie Jane (Connally) Helmer. He married Violet Lee Schram on Sept. 3, 1948. 

He is survived by: his wife, Violet Helmer of Sharp; daughters, Silvia Rangel of Huntsville, and Sherry Valdez of Conroe; son, Charles Helmer Jr.; sister, Ruby Adamson of Fairfield; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Ethan Angel Rangel

Ethan Angel Rangel, infant son of Barbara Marquez and Johnny Angel Salazar-Rangel, died Sept. 10, 2018, in a Harker Heights medical center. 

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. 

Ethan is survived by his parents of Temple; grandparents, Juan Rangel Jr. of Temple, Yvonne Quinonez of California, and Miguel Juarez of Bellville; and great-grandparents, Juanita Rangel of Buckholts, Janie Terronez of California and Jose Haro of California.
