Kurtis Michael Roemeling

Kurtis Michael Roemeling, 29, formerly of Cameron and Copperas Cove, died Thursday, March 14, 2019, in Copperas Cove, as the result of injuries sustained in an accident.

Kurtis was born in Libertyville, Ill., on Jan. 30, 1990. He had worked doing body work on cars for Guerra’s auto body shop and had worked for Mikeska’s Bar-B-Que and Subway in Cameron. 

He is survived by: son, Beau Benton Mack; mother and step-father, Angie and Thomas Henderson; and sisters, Erica Roemeling and Hailey Henderson.

Kurtis was a loving, caring son, brother and friend and will be greatly missed.  Please come celebrate his life with us on Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m. at the Promise Land Church, 1504 E. 51st Street, Austin, Texas 78723

Walter E. Odstrcil

Walter E. Odstrcil, 74, of Cameron, died Thursday, March 14, 2019, in Galveston.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Odstrcil, a retired self-employed mechanic, was born July 9, 1944, in Caldwell to Walter Emil and Annie (Mikeska) Odstrcil. He graduated from Caldwell High School. He was preceded in death by his wife Nell in 2015; by a son, Clyde Pinkerton Jr.; and by a brother, Charles Allen Odstrcil.

Virginia "Ginny" Kreil

Virginia Jeanette Schwartz Kreil, Ginny as most knew her, was welcomed to the world on Oct. 9, 1930, at 4:50 p.m. by her parents Joseph and Elsie (Toll) Schwartz at St. Nicholas' Hospital in Sheboygan, Wis. After 88 long years of life Ginny was called Home by our Lord on Feb. 22, 2019, at 4:25 a.m. in a Temple nursing facility. 

Ginny was an only child raised with solid family morals, during an era where independence and pride were just as important. Surviving The Great Depression and witnessing several wars, Ginny gained her sense of pride, tremendous strength and a stubborn independence that became her legacy she passed on to her family.

J. Sabino Alvarez Cuevas

J. Sabino Alvarez Cuevas, 65, of Mexico and formerly of Cameron, died Sunday, March 10, 2019, in Mexico. 

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Pastor Basilio Montez officiating. Burial of cremains will follow in the Hernandez Cemetery in Cameron.

Mr. Cuevas was born Dec. 5, 1953, to Ernest Alvarez Cuello and Josefa Cuevas Alvarez. 

He is survived by: wife, Genoveva Ramos Alvarez; son, Sabino Avarez; daughters, Sanjuana Gutierrez, Irasema Galvan and Victoria Alvarez; brothers, Mario Martinez, Francisco Alvarez, Adalberto Alvarez and Ernesto Alvarez; sisters, Lourdes Alvarez, Indira Alvarez, Fidela Alvarez, Ma. Guadalupe Martinez Cuevas, Bertha Martinez Cuevas, Patricia Martinez Cuevas and Josefina Martinez; father, Ernest Alvarez Cuell0; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Edna Marie Mueck Wendt

Edna Marie Mueck Wendt, 84, of Crawford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, March 9, 2019. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Crawford. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, at Cole Funeral Home in McGregor.

Mrs. Wendt was born in Cameron on March 12, 1934, to Reinhold Mueck and Louise Nittman Mueck. She grew up in Cameron and along with her twin brother, Edwin, was the youngest of seven children. She graduated from Cameron Yoe High School in 1951 and moved to Houston where she worked at Port City State Bank for many years.

Vondee Chandler Blacklock

Vondee Chandler Blacklock, 91, of Temple, died Monday, March 11, in a Temple assisted living facility. 

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Oak Hill Pavilion in Cameron.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.

Mrs. Blacklock was born August 23, 1927, in Denton County to John Lewis and Mary (McMahon) Reynolds. She married E.D. Chandler in Denton on Jan. 12, 1946.  He preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1974, in Cameron. She married RJ Blacklock in Austin on Jan. 3, 1981 and he preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 2010, in Temple.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jesse Reynolds; and sister, Linda Martin; as well as her son-in-law, Thomas Mark Denson.

Homer Lee Mowdy

Homer Lee Mowdy, 63, of the Hanover Community of Milam County, died Monday, March 4, 2019, at his home. 

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, at Liberty Community Cemetery near Hanover.

Mr. Mowdy, a truck driver and truck mechanic, was born Sept. 1, 1955, to E.C. and Rosie Lee (Smith) Mowdy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a brother, Edward Mowdy. 

He is survived by: a sister, Frances Yount and husband Jack of Minerva.

Anna Lou Towery

Funeral services for Anna Lou Towery, 76, of Waco, formerly of Rockdale and Thorndale, are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2019, in the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Gary Jackson and Allen Sanders officiating. Burial will follow in the Salty Cemetery near Thorndale. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 7, 2019, at the funeral home.

Ottilia “Tillie” Frances Zarosky

Ottilia “Tillie” Frances Zarosky (Meme) was born June 14, 1929, in Cameron, and passed away on March 3, 2019, in Houston.

Tillie and her siblings were raised by her grandmother and relatives upon the passing of her mother when she was only three years old until her dad remarried. She graduated from Yoe High School in 1948 in Cameron. She participated in many sports and extra-curricular activities such as choir and homemaking.

She married Edward “Ed” Zarosky on May 10, 1952. Upon Ed’s discharge from the Air Force, Tillie and Ed moved to the Houston Heights in 1955, where they raised their family of four children. Tillie was a full-time housewife and mother until her two youngest sons started Junior High School. At that time, Tillie began working in the food service industry for Houston Independent School District (HISD) until her retirement.

Rosa Lee Kopriva

Rosa Lee Kopriva, 88, of Cameron, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019, in a Temple hospital. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, March 4, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church. Entombment will be in the St. Monica’s Mausoleum. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 p.m. with a rosary being recited at 6 p.m. at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home. Additional viewing will be one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.

Mrs. Kopriva, a homemaker and seamstress, was born March 9, 1930, in Maraksville, Milam County, to Joe Joseph and Mary (Vanek) Vrazel. She married Frank Anton Kopriva on Nov. 10, 1947, and he preceded her in death in 2004.

She was a member of St. Monica’s Catholic Church.

She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Schneider, grandson, Kevin Boothe; brothers, Joe Vrazel and Ladis Vrazel; and sister, Angeline Kopriva.
