Orlia Charles “Chip” Dunsmoor, 66, of Minerva, died Sunday, March 4, 2018, at his home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 9, 2018, at the Milam County Cowboy Church near Rockdale with Rev. Greg Spears officiating. Burial will follow in Minerva Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron.
“Chip” was born Nov. 27, 1951 in Oswego, N.Y., to Orlia and Eva (Acker) Dunsmoor. He married Janice Popham on June 5, 1983. He served in the U. S. Army. He obtained his Master Peace Officer’s License and a degree in Criminal Justice. Chip began working as a patrolman with the Cameron Police Department in 1982 and later as a Deputy Sheriff, with the Milam County Sheriff’s Department and in 1995 became supervisor for the newly formed Milam County Work Program. Chip worked for the Sheriff’s Department until he was sworn in as Milam County Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace. He had also worked for the Department of Defense Police, (Security Operations). Chip retired from Milam County in 2010.
His community involvements include, having served on the Board of Directors for the Girl’s Softball Association, Cameron Rotary Club and Cameron Chamber of Commerce, serving as president for these civic organizations. He also received the Outstanding Chamber Member Award, served as President of the Central Texas Justice of the Peace and Constables Association, the Mass Casualty/Fatality review board and had served on the Child Fatality review board. Chip was a member of the Minerva Volunteer Fire Department for 21 years and a member of the American Legion Edwin Hardy Post #9 in Cameron.
He is survived by: wife, Janice Dunsmoor of Minerva; son, Daylon Ashley of Minerva; daughters, Shannon Eubanks and husband David of Rockdale, and Jami Stringer and husband Kris of Cameron; brothers, Howard Dunsmoor of Oklahoma, Paul Dunsmoor of Florida, and Jeff Dunsmoor of New York; sisters, Darlene Meyers of Killeen and Christine Nearbin of New York; nine grandchildren, Dakota Eubanks, Kylie Eubanks, Kassidy Eubanks, Skylar Fitzhugh, Alexis Stringer, Hunter Stringer, Kristopher Stringer, Brianna Stringer and Alyssa Stringer.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
