Funeral services for Clara Grace Sherrill, 93, of Lexington, are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at the Lexington Livestock Commission with Keith Bexley officiating. Burial will follow in the Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. and on Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, from 8 a.m. until noon at Phillips and Luckey Funeral Home in Lexington. The family will be present for visitation from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Clara Grace (King) Sherrill was born on March 17, 1924, in Lexington, to Brevard McDowell and Margaret “Maggie” Esebella (Dowdy) King. She was affectionately known to her family and friends as “Weise.” She was united in marriage to Buell Bernard “B.B.” Sherrill on May 1, 1959, in La Grange. They shared three children, Roderick, Gary and Sherry.
Clara Grace was a business owner and owned Sherrill Real Estate in Lexington where she also prepared taxes, and worked for many of years at the Lexington Livestock Commission. She was a member of the Lexington Livestock Commission, Lexington Garden Club, and the Red Hats Society. She enjoyed playing cards and dominoes at the Senior Center in Lexington, playing tennis, traveling especially to Mexico, helping with the Lexington Homecoming and she loved gardening.
Clara Grace passed away the morning of Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at her residence in Lexington.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Brevard and Margaret King; husband, B.B. Sherrill; and one brother, William Carroll "Keto" King.
She is survived by her three children, Roderick Wayne Holcombe of Cameron, Gary Bernard Sherrill of Lexington, and Sherry Sherrill Shirley of Garland; eight grandchildren, Andy Holcombe and his wife Micah of Cameron, William Holcombe and his wife Sara of Henrietta, Adam Sherrill and his wife Chyrl of Lexington, Andrea Sherrill of Houston, Doug Shirley and his wife Susan of Garland, Theresa Hardin of Garland, and Michael Shirley of Garland; ten great-grandchildren, Chance Sherrill, Chace Sherrill, Caitlin Sherrill, Brandon Shirley-Hardin, Brianna Hardin, Luke Holcombe, Mackenzie Holcombe, James Holcombe, Aubrey Holcombe, and Preston Holcombe.
Serving as pallbearers will be David Sherrill, Randy Sherrill, Craig Cowgill, Gus Perez, Ben “Bud” Childers, Frank “Stormy” King, Bob Rao, William Dowdy and Garry Karber.
Memorials may be made to the Lee County 4-H, 310 South Grimes Street, Giddings, Texas 78942 (made payable to Lee 4-H PVA), or to a charity of one’s choice.
