Week 11 Football Outlooks

Cameron Vs. The Bye

There are a few positives for Cameron this week. A. The Yoemen are now in the playoffs and get an extra week to heal up any bangs and bruises. B. This team knows they should be playing Teague in the opening round of the playoffs, so that will give this staff a full extra week to prepare for what appears to be a tough first round opponent. I was impressed with Cameron’s defensive performance in the 35-0 win over Troy. The Trojans have problem scoring points, but to hold an opponent to a little over 100 yards of 40+ carries is a big win. The offense did managed to get going in the second half, but will need to sure up some things in these two weeks as it is going to take a complete four quarters on each side of the ball to win in the playoffs.

Around Milam County

Oglesby (2-6/1-1) Vs. Buckholts (6-3/1-1)

The playoffs start a week early in this one as the winner will be moving on while the loser will be left out of the postseason. If you’re the Badgers, you simply must put last week’s 51-0 loss to Calvert behind you. The Trojans were simply on another level and you must turn your full attention to a quality Oglesby team. Oglesby did defeat Prairie Lea last week, 74-25.

Josh’s Pick: Buckholts by 7.

Milano (8-1/3-1) Vs. Somerville (2-7/2-2)

As expected, Milano bounced back from a tough week 9 loss to Burton by crushing Snook, 49-12. This week, the Eagles will close to regular season with a short road trip over to Somverville. The Yeguas have struggled throughout most of the season, but are actually in position to get into the playoffs. As an Eagles fan you want your team to take care of business early and often in this one, but make sure to stay healthy as bigger games are on the horizon.

Josh’s Pick: Milano by 28+

Thrall (8-1/4-0) Vs. Thorndale (4-5/2-2)

With one week to play in this district, there is still tons up in the air. Thorndale kept themselves firmly in the hunt for a playoff spot after edging Rosebud-Lott last week, 22-21, evening their district record at 2-2. If Thorndale can somehow down rival Thrall at home on Friday, the Bulldogs are going to be in the playoffs. There are other, and more feasible ways for this team to get in. If Moody beats Holland and Rosebud-Lott beats Normangee, then Thorndale would go based on the head-to-head victory over the Cougars. Also, a Rosebud-Lott loss to Normangee would automatically put Thorndale in. There could also be a three-way tie for third place, which will mean points and head-to-head matchups will come into play.

Josh’s Pick: Thrall by 14.

Around 10-3A

McGregor (5-4/3-2) Vs. Troy (3-6/2-3)

Everything is on the line in this game to end the regular season. With a McGregor win, they will secure the number three seed in 10-3A; however, if Troy were to win, they themselves would take the number four seed, leaving McGregor out of the playoffs while pushing Cameron up to the number three seed. Any win (1 points or 21 points) for Troy, would push Cameron to the third seed. After that, it is head to head and Troy would have that advantage over McGregor with a win.

Josh’s Pick: McGregor by 14.

Jarrell (0-9/0-5) Vs. Rockdale (6-3/4-1)

There is just simply nothing to play for in this game. Rockdale is a lock for the number two seed, and regardless of how the Tigers play in this game, it will be a blowout. In contest like this, get a lead early and get the starters out to avoid any type of freak injuries.

Josh’s Pick: Rockdale by 28+

Franklin (7-2/5-0) Vs. Little River Academy (3-6/1-4)

Much like Jarrell/Rockdale, there is just simply not going to be much to see here. Franklin will be the number one seed out of 10-3A, and much like Rockdale, they will be looking to avoid any key injuries before the start of the playoffs.

Around the State

Teague (7-2/5-1) Vs. Palestine Westwood (1-8/0-6)

I will be traveling down to Palestine on Friday to catch this game. One thing to note is that the final score is not in doubt as the Lions are going to win by a very large margin. I am going to this game simply to see the personnel that Teague has on the field. Is Teague still a heavy run offense? How many two-way starters do the Lions have?
