Yoe places second in lineman challenge

It’s the first year that Cameron has competed in lineman challenges, but the big boys up front are making headways. Just this past week, the Yoe lineman placed second in the Holland Corn Festival Lineman Challenge. A total of five teams (Cameron, Round Rock Cedar Ridge, Rogers, Holland, Salado) participated in the event. Cameron was second, just to Salado. Pictured are Javy Torres (Coach), Brodie Sexton, Dominic Lewis, Adrian Lewis, Chris Johnson, Quentin Ewing, Caleb Hubnik, and Christian Reyes.

Summer basketball state championship brackets

On Monday, the summer state basketball tournament pools and brackets were released. The Yoemen - which qualified for the event in Salado earlier this month - will be competing in the division II bracket from Colleyville Heritage and Grapevine High Schools this weekend. The Yoemen will be in a pool play with Kemp, Texarkana Pleasant Grove, Princeton and Peaster. Division II will include 3A and 4A schools. Division I has 5A and 6A schools while division III will host 1A and 2A squads.

Cameron will open play on Friday at 1:00 versus Kemp in gym three in Colleyville. The next game will be at 4:00 against Peaster back at the same gym. Saturday play will see a matchup with Pleasant Grove at Colleyville Heritage on gym one. The final pool game will see a shift to Grapevine to take on Princeton at 4:00. Regardless of how you fare in pool play, you will be in the championship bracket starting Saturday night and continuing all day Sunday.

Coaching Changes

Most recently, a few changes have been made to the Yoe coaching staff for this upcoming season. C.H. Brock was most recently the defensive coordinator at 3A Comanche in 2016.

Fritz selected in the MLB draft

A local athlete has recently been selected in the 2017 Major League Baseball (MLB) draft. Former Rogers ace and current Dallas Baptist University pitcher Gavin Fritz was selected in the 16th round by the Miami Marlins. Fritz, who is currently a junior at DBU, has a career 5-3 record and has struck out a total of 79 batters in just 78.1 innings of work. Fritz was district MVP and first team all-state as the ace of the Rogers staff in 2014. A total of 25 Texas high school players were selected in the draft. Shanez Baz of Concordia Lutheran was the highest selection, going 12th overall to Pittsburgh. Fritz and others can decide to join their MLB systems or choose to continue their college careers.
