Blessings From God Food pantry

Blessings From God Food Pantry distribution dates for 2018 are: June 19 from 9-11 a.m. Mobile pantry is open every second Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Fruits and vegetables are distributed every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1-2 p.m. The pantry is located at 1300 N. Austin in Cameron.

 

DAV Meeting

Chapter 86 of the Disabled American Veterans will hold its monthly meeting Thursday night, June 21, at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Caldwell. The church is located at 501 W. Mustang St. The meeting is held in the Family Life Building on the corner of Harvey and Buffalo. All members, and eligible veterans are encouraged to attend., especially this month. All veterans with any disability rating from the VA, or those who have earned a Purple Heart, are eligible. Library Summer 

Reading Program 

Cameron Public Library’s Summer Reading Programon Thursday, June 21, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. will feature Backyard Birds. This program will concentrate on a few of the birds we might see in our backyards.  We will learn what makes a bird a bird, their color differences, the sounds of the songs they sing, and why they are important to us.  We will also learn what we can do to help our birds make a successful home for themselves in our yards.  The program consists of a slideshow, some entertaining videos, a take-home activity, suggested reading material, and handouts. Bobby Flores at the VFW

Bobby Flores and The Yellow Rose Band will perform at VFW Post 2101 in Cameron on June 23 at 8:30 p.m. Traditional country and western swing music. Tickets are $15. BYOB. Beer, food and set ups available. Reservations call (254) 295-6222.

 

Thorndale VFD BBQ Cook-off

The 28th annual Thorndale VFD BBQ Cookoff will be held June 22-24. Pre-sale tickets are available online. Friday, June 22, TUB will open for Kevin Fowler from 8 p.m. to midnight with a Fireman’s Softball Tournament at City Park and fireworks at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, June 23, Snake River Red will ope from Josh Ward from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Also on Saturday, arts and crafts, horseshoe tournaments, 42 tournament, washer pitching and opening ceremonies presenting Miss Thorndale and her court at 11:30 a.m.

 

Faith Fest

Faith Fest by the Lake will be held at Ledbetter Park in Cameron on Saturday, June 23, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Come all ages and help left up Jesus. There will be praise and worship, spiritual guidance, gospel singing, praise dancing, free food and drinks. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Photography Day Camp

4-H Photography Day Camp will be held June 29 from 9 a.m to noon at Bea’s Kitchen in Cameron for ages 5-18. There is no cost. Bring your camera. Call (254) 697-7045 to register.

 

July 4th Fireworks 

Celebration

Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration is set for July 4 at Wilson-Ledbetter Park in Cameron from 4-11 p.m. Come join in the fun activities at Wilson Ledbetter Park for Cameron and Rockdale’s Fourth of July Celebration. Bring your lawn chairs and sit back and relax for a spectacular fireworks display.  There will be activities for the kids, food and drink vendors and music. Pinterest Day Camp

Pinterest Day Camp will be held July 19 from 8 a.m. to noon at Abiding Savior Lutheran Church in Cameron for ages 5-18. Call (254) 697-7045 to register.

 

ALCOA retirees

At the last meeting of the Rockdale ALCOA Retirees, the Retirees elected to continue the organization. The Retirees will meet in Thorndale at the VFW Hall on Sept. 13.

 

Washers Tournament

Washers Tournaments will be held to benefit the American Cancer Society each second and fourth Sunday from March through September at Apache Pass Ice House beginning at 5 p.m. Registration begins at 4 p.m. Cost is $20 per team. For more information, contact Kim Jeter at (512) 760-7194.

 

Railroad Museum

The Milam County Railroad Museum and Old Town Cameron will be open Tuesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Old Town Cameron will be undergoing extensive upgrades to the track and operating systems during the next two to three months.  If members of the Milam County Model Railroad Club are working, the Museum and OTC will be open.  Please check our website: www.mcmr-otc.org for a schedule of work times.

 

San Andres Masonic Lodge

The San Andres Masonic Lodge #170 meets every second Thursday of the month at the San Andres Masonic Lodge #170 at 106 W. 6th St. Dinner at 6:30 p.m. followed by a meeting at 7:30 p.m.

 

Ben milam VFW Post 2010

Kitchen open Tuesday through Saturday from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Dart tournaments Wednesday and Friday. Karaoke every Friday. Come and enjoy.

 

History of the Milam County Jail

New color History of the Milam County Jail with text by Thomas Grimes is now available at the Main Museum, 112 West First Street. The cost is $25 or $30 shipped. This is the first ever collectable history of this historic jail ever to be produced. There is a limited number of copies available.

The “History of Milam County” by Leila Batte is now on sale at the Milam County Museum. This invaluable volume has been out of print for over 64 years, so we are offering this opportunity to own one of the 500 copies made available by the museum. Videos of Judge Black presentation on sale

In 2014 Judge William Black presented a talk about his father “The Life and Times of Sheriff Carl Black” at the Milam County Historical Museum. The museum now has DVD recordings of that presentation available for purchase at the museum located at 112 W. 1st, Cameron.
