Lester Watson “L.W.” Turner Jr.

L.W. Turner Jr. was born Dec. 8, 1929, in Cameron to Lester and Marietta Pool Turner. He attended Cameron schools and graduated from C.H. Yoe High School in 1947. 

He married Eugenia Olivia Walzel on June 10, 1950, in Cameron and they had two children Bob and Sara Jo.

In September 1947 he went to work for the Blake Family at the Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Cameron, starting as a route helper and later working as a route salesman and route supervisor. In 1957, he moved his family to Ponca City, Okla., when Gene Blake took over management of Ponca City Coca-Cola Bottling Company. He was detailed to Columbus, Neb. During the Christmas holidays in 1972, he moved his family back to Cameron from Ponca City, Okla. He became the sales manager at Coca-Cola Cameron in January 1973. After 40 years in the Coca-Cola business, he worked as assistant manager at Keiths Minimax for six years from 1987 to 1993.  He drove a school bus for Cameron ISD from 1993 to 2006, serving the Marak-Yarrelton area. Mr. Turner was active in the Lions Club in Cameron and Ponca City.  He served on the Cameron ISD School Board from 1981 to 1990.

He lived at Garden Estates in Temple from April 2014 until December 2017. He enjoyed going to estate sales on the weekends with his son, Bob. He collected crosses, thimbles and buttons. He served in the United States Army from Jan 1952 until 1954. 

He was preceded in death by his wife Eugenia in 2004; his parents; and brother, Earl Turner. 

He is survived by his son, Bob Turner and wife Carolyn of Cameron; daughter, Sara Jo Simpson and husband Scotty of Montgomery; grandchildren, Greg Turner of Waco, Kristen Turner of Dallas, Payton Simpson of Monroe, La., and Tucker Simpson of Montgomery; sister, Ruth Lagrone of Milano; brother, Burrell Turner and wife Lorene of Austin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
