Harold Glenn Hughes

Services for Harold Glenn Hughes, 70, of Caldwell are set for 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2018, at First Baptist Church in Caldwell, with Rev. Steve Johnson officiating.  Interment will follow at the Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell. 

Mr. Hughes passed from this world on April 22, 2018, at his home surrounded by family.

Glenn was born Dec. 20, 1947, to I. N. Hughes and Alice (Greathouse) Hughes in Wichita Falls. He grew up in Cameron. He married Jan Tindall on Aug. 17, 1965, in Bellville.

Glenn’s career consisted of many automotive ventures; from owning gas stations to parts positions and finally leading him to Caldwell where he and A.W. Brewer purchased Harvey Motor Company. After A.W. Brewer’s retirement, Randy Doonan and Bobby Walker became his business partners where they ran Hughes-Doonan Chevrolet and Pontiac until his retirement.

In his earlier years, Glenn was active in the Caldwell Volunteer Fire Department, Caldwell Men’s Lions Club, where he was past President, Chamber of Commerce, First Baptist Church member for over 40 years and past First Baptist Church School board member.

His favorite pastime was spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s many activities. He also enjoyed spending time at his mother’s home place in Regina, N.M.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Sue Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Jan (Tindall) Hughes of Caldwell; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Kelly Hughes; daughters and sons-in-law, Tamy and Lynn Johnson of Austin, Hannah and Ricky Sanchez of Caldwell; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Tammy Hughes of Waco; sisters and brothers-in-law, Janice and John Rogers of Marlin, Linda and Rick Graubaugh of Dallas, Karen and Dusty Womble of Leander; grandchildren, Ashley and Amber Johnson of Austin, Westyn and Haven Hughes of Caldwell, Kade and Kain Sanchez of Caldwell; and many other relative and family friends.

Pallbearers will be Scott Hughes, Ricky Sanchez, Lynn Johnson, Bill Hughes, Westyn Hughes, Kade Sanchez, and Kain Sanchez.

The family requests memorial contributions be sent to Hospice Brazos Valley, 302 East Blue Bell Road, Brenham, Texas 77833; First Baptist Church or First Baptist Church School in Caldwell.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Strickland Funeral Home of Caldwell.
