Softball splits games with Lexington, Franklin

The Lady Yoe arguably had the roughest opening schedule of any team in 20-3A, having to begin play with defending state champ Academy in addition to games with playoff hopefuls Jarrell and Lexington.
Cameron fell to hard to both Academy (16-1) and Jarrell (11-1), but did get in the win column without having to play a game when Hearne had to forfeit due to not having enough players to field a squad.
Lexington
Things did not get better in games played on Monday night as Lexington outhit Cameron 19-2, which produced a lopsided 16-1 final score after 5 innings.
Kylie Hobbs was big for Lexington all night, finishing 3-5 from the plate with 1 double, 2 home runs, and 6 total runs driven in.
The first homer was a 3-run shot in the first before the Lady Eagles added one more to go up 4-0.
Cameron’s lone bright spot came in the bottom half, as with the bases empty Kenzie Wimmer sent one over the right field fence, cutting the deficit to 4-1.
Lexington was held scoreless in the second, but put up 2 in each the third and fifth to extend things out to 8-1. The wheels completely fell off in the fifth with 8 more runs crossing home plate.
In addition to Wimmer’s home run, Yoe starting pitcher Madison Brunson had the lone other hit for Cameron, which was a combined 2-17 from the plate on the evening. A total of 6 different Lexington batters had at least 2 hits and 10 different batters recorded at least one hit.

Franklin
The Lady Yoe got back on track on Tuesday by doubling up Franklin on the road, 12-6. The Lady Yoe bats exploded with 15 base knocks after being held quiet in 3 losses.
Franklin opened scoring with 2 in the bottom of the first, but Cameron answered back with lone runs in the second and third innings to tie it.
Ashlee Balch doubled in the second, scoring Karla Martinez, which was hit by a pitch to begin the inning to get Cameron on the scoreboard.
Cameron added a 3-spot in the 4th to push the lead to 5-2. Wimmer had the big knock with a triple to left field, scoring Keeli Floyd, Courtney Muniz and Alejandra Ibarra.
Cameron created the big cushion in the top of the 7th, pushing across 6 runs to go up 12-4 with 10 batters sent to the plate.
Wimmer finished 2-3 with a double, home run, 2 runs scored and 4 runs drivin in. Ibarra finished with 3 hits and scored 3 runs. Yareli Contreras, Balch, Floyd and and Muniz each had 2 hits.
