Soccer season begins
The new year means the start of new sports as the Yoe and Lady Yoe soccer teams are ready to kickoff their seasons. Both teams will be competing in tournaments over the weekend, with the ladies traveling to Waller while the boys will be returning to Jarrell.
The ladies will once again be traveling to one of the state’s biggest soccer tournament of the
year. The Waller Girls Classic has a total of three groups with a total of 4 pools with 4 teams per pool. So, in total there will be a total of 48 teams in Waller over the weekend. Cameron will be in group 3 and will be situated in pool B with Klein Oak, Needville and Sweeny. On Thursday, the ladies will open the tournament with Needville at 10:20 am, and will return to action at 6:20 pm with Needville. Cameron will close pool play on Friday at 2:20 with Klein Oak. Cameron is the only 3A or smaller school in the field, with the rest being either 4A, 5A or 6A schools.
Brackets for the boys tournament in Jarrell were not provided to The Herald in time for print.
Yoe powerlifting meet is this Saturday
The very first powerlifting meet is an important one as hundreds of lifters will be traveling to Cameron to showcase their skills.
With the large amount of competitors, there are a lot of volunteers needed to make the meet a success.
A message from the Yoe Athletic Boosters:
“The Annual Yoe Powerlifting meet is this Saturday at the YHS Gym. We'll need quite a bit of help to run this operation. Students are welcome to help to fulfill volunteer hours. Our busiest time is from 10:00-2:00 when we feed the participants and the coaches/judges. We also need some desserts/fruit trays/etc. for the hospitality room. Let us know if you can help out with those items.
We'll do a BBQ lunch for the coaches and judges. We'll provide the meat, utensils, etc. If anyone would like to bring side dishes such as beans/potato salad/cole slaw, etc. we would appreciate it. Let us know what you are bringing so we can fill in the gaps later.”
There is a sign up page posted on the Boosters Facebook page if you’d like to volunteer your time.
