Service Directory
David L. Terry, of Cypress, passed away last week at the age of 77.
Visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 9, at 2 p.m. at Providence Funeral Home, 807 Carlos G Parker Boulevard Northwest in Taylor. Service will then start at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Taylor City Cemetery and followed by food and fellowship at the Terry family homestead in San Gabriel.
David was born and raised on the family farm in San Gabriel. He was active in sports at the San Gabriel school and Thorndale High School. He graduated from Southwest Texas State College (now named Texas State University) in 1962. His many early jobs included industrial arts shop teacher and bus driver. He rose to become the Director of Transportation for the Cypress Fairbanks School district.
David was preceded in death by his parents, James and Evalyn; and his daughter, Cathi.
He is survived by his son, Trent Terry; Trent’s wife, Lynn; daughter, Karen Burris; Karen’s husband, Darrell; brother, Rocky Terry and his wife Byrleen; sister, Lynette Doughty and her husband, Ron; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
David enjoyed his family and friends, the yearly Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo B-B-Q Cook-off with his brother Rocky’s GO-TEXAS team from Marlin, Texas, well-endowed ladies, Crown Royal and his recliner and big screen TV. Not necessarily in that order. His dislikes included remembering the times he had to bail hay or pick cotton as a youth, which helped him focus on getting a good education.
David’s keen fashion sense kept him dressed in Texas or Eagle-themed ball caps and black T-shirts with shorts and sneakers, or looking sharp in his starched jeans, starched shirts, black boots and black cowboy hat.
