Lawrence H. “Jack” Obermiller

Lawrence H. "Jack" Obermiller passed away at his home in Pleasanton on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the age of 83.

Jack was born Aug. 2, 1934, in Buckholts, to Lawrence H. Obermiller Sr. and Annie Lou McAnaulty Obermiller.  He was raised on the family farm where he picked cotton alongside his parents and younger brother.  Jack lost his father at a young age, and after he graduated, he went to work on a road construction crew to help support his mother and brother.  He later helped in building the Alcoa plant in Rockdale.

Jack was always very proud of his road building work and loved running the large equipment.  Jack married, and children came along right away.  He was soon the father of five girls.  As much as he loved his work, he loved his family even more.  He left the construction business to spend more time at home. It was then that he got into selling truck tires, and he excelled as a salesman. He did take a break from tires and sold insurance with Farm Bureau for a short while.

In his later years, Jack started a shredding business, and enjoyed being on his tractor.  Jack had a love for helping others, and lived a modest lifestyle to maximize his ability to help with both his time and finances.  He will forever be remembered for his great humor and generous spirit.

Jack is survived by his two loving daughters, Lisa Rabenaldt and husband Paul, and Brenda Wells and husband John; son, Mark Mund and wife Debbie; grandchildren John, Ethan and Kimberly; and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his beloved friend, Stamo Andrews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Annie Lou Obermiller; and his daughter Susan.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Christus Santa Rosa, or St. Jude's Children’s Hospital.

Funeral services for Jack will be on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pleasanton Church of Christ.  The family will arrive at 10 a.m. to receive friends before the service.  Burial services will follow on Saturday, Oct. 14, in Cameron.
