Week 6 Football Outlooks

Franklin (3-2/1-0) Vs. Cameron Yoe (1-4/0-1)

When Franklin travels to Cameron on Friday night, I believe it will be one of the biggest and most important games ever played on Yoe Field. This 2017 season is simply at a crossroads, and there are one of two ways things can go from this point forward. A loss in this game means that the Yoemen will more than likely be finishing no better than third with Rockdale still left on the schedule. However, I believe a win could get this team back on a path to a district title and the number one seed in the playoffs. Franklin is a solid football team that makes few mistakes and does the little things well to win games. Everyone, including the players and coaches, realize that another McGregor type performance is going to result in another loss. This team is certainly capable of more than that, and this is the time to break out of that shell and show the potential that was there with the preseason number one ranking in the state. I encourage all Yoe fans to arrive early to this game and show your support. This will most certainly be a winnable game.

Josh’s Pick: Cameron Yoe by 14.

Buckholts (2-2) Vs. Round Rock Christian (3-1)

Though Buckholts did not win over Parkview Christian this past week (L 70-67), I don’t believe there are too many things to hang your heads about if you're a Badger fan. Oglesby, which was in the playoffs last season in this district, fell to Parkview Christian, 47-0, while Buckholts had just the 3-point deficit. If Buckholts continues their trend of impressive performances a “3” should go up in the win column.

Josh’s Pick: Buckholts by 14.

Rockdale (2-2/0-0) Vs. Little River Academy (3-2, 0-1)

Rockdale needed to handle Rogers easily, and they did, 34-6. The Tigers have had an up and down non-district, but Oklahoma commit JaQuayln Crawford is back from injury and should improve this team’s offensive numbers. If you’re Academy, sneaking out of Jarrell with a 6-point, 20-14 win is concerning. The Cougars had only scored 21 total points in their four other ball games, which all came against lower classification schools.

Josh’s Pick: Rockdale by 28.

Jarrell (0-5/0-1) Vs. Troy (1-4/0-1)

A positive here is that Jarrell could get their first win of the season or Troy could double their win total and even their district record. My bet would be with the Trojans. Jarrell should be outclassed the rest of their schedule as this is just a down season for the Cougars. Troy could be in playoff contention, but McGregor’s victory over Cameron probably makes that road a bit more difficult.

Josh’s Pick: Troy by 21.

Gregory-Portland (2-2) Vs. Miller (3-1)

With a light week of games due to bye weeks, this is a good time to check on former Yoe coach Rick Rhoades and his Gregory-Portland Wildcats. Much like in his early time in Cameron, it appears his new team is starting to show signs of improvement. Through four games last

season, GP was outscored 121-24. That has flipped to a 124-63 advantage in favor of the Wildcats. This week is the district opener versus Miller, which won this game by a narrow 3-point margin in 2016. GP takes it in 2017.
