Senor Class Fundraiser

C.H. Yoe High School Class of 2018 Senior Celebration selling tickets for a chance to win a 2018 Ford Focus valued up to $19,995. Color and model to be decided by the winner at Johnson Ford in Temple. The winner is responsible for tax, title, and license. There will only be 300 tickets sold for $100 each. Contact any senior or senior parent to get a chance to win. The winner will be drawn on Jan. 27, 2018. Winner doesn’t need to be present to win.

 

Democratic Party Meeting

The Milam County Democratic Party will hold its executive meeting on Thursday, Sept. 28, at 5 p.m. in the party headquarters at 1707 West Cameron Ave. in Rockdale. All democrats are welcome to attend. All precinct chairs should attend and fill out application for the primary ballot in March 2018.

 

Milano Junction Jamboree

The monthly Milano Junction Country Jamboree, featuring country and gospel music will be held in the Milano Civic Center at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30. Admission is free and everyone is invited. Refreshments consisting of coffee, water, an assortment of sodas, pies, sandwiches and chips will be available. Due to the effects of Hurricane Harvey, the August Jamboree and the 95th birthday celebration for Tina Galbreath had to be cancelled. We invite everyone to come and enjoy the celebration this month. Tina has been a faithful attendee and participant in the Jamboree for many years. The band will be playing and singing many of the songs that are special to Tina.

 

Bake Sale

Buckholts Ladies Auxiliary will be having a bake sale Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Circle V.  The proceeds will go towards fire masks for the fire deptartment.

 

Annual Minerva Homecoming

The 56th Annual Minerva Meet Your Neighbor & Homecoming will be held on Sunday, Oct. 1, at noon at the Minerva Community Center, 378 CR 232 Loop. Prior to the noon meal, the Minerva-Midway Cemetery Board will conduct a brief annual business meeting. Come fellowship with your neighbors and friends in Minerva. Bring your family and friends and enjoy visiting along with a covered dish lunch.  Remember to bring photos and memories. Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Cameron ISD on Monday, Oct. 2. This will be an early release day for students. The YHS Faculty will be at the following locations to meet with parents: noon to 1:20  p.m. at Simon George Hall; 1:30-2:45 p.m. at O.J. Thomas; and 2:55-4 at YHS.

 

Senior EXPO

The Fourth Annual Milam County Senior EXPO will be held at the KC Hall in Rockdale on Oct. 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Vendors, Door Prizes, Glucose screening and Flu Shots. For more information contact Michelle Morgan at morganfamily72@hotmail.com.

 

Lunch Bunch

The Lunch Bunch will meet on Thursday, Oct. 5, at noon at the First United Methodist Church Family Life Center in Cameron. Sissy Wallace, volunteer coordinator for Standards Hospice, will speak to the group about volunteering.  The public is invited to attend. Bring a food dish to share for the lunch at noon.

 

Fall Garage Sale

The Milano Ladies Auxiliary will hold its Fall Garage Sale on Oct. 5-7. Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Milano Fire Station, 305 E. Avenue C, Highway 79 and 36 in Milano. The building will be open Thursday and Friday, Sept. 28-29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and daily beginning Monday, Oct. 2 at 8 a.m. to accept donations. Rotary Spaghetti Supper

The Cameron Rotary Club’s Spaghetti Supper will be on Oct. 6 from 5-7 p.m. at Yoe High School. Eat in or take out. Cost is $8 a plate for spaghetti, bread, salad and dessert.

 

Family Fun Fest

Grace Church located at 808 W. 16th Street in Cameron, Texas would like to invite everyone to its Annual Family Fun Festival on Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Events are planned for the whole family and are excited to host the arts and crafts festival. Please mark your calendar to enjoy the festivities. There will be craft, specialty items and food booths as well as live music, auction, and horse drawn buggy rides. Fall Fest

Davilla Community Center will hold is annual Fall Fest on Oct. 7 from 6-10 p.m. at 20803 North FM 487 in Davilla. Fun and games, food and goodies. Silent auction and a raffle for a handmade American flag afghan and handmade solid wood toy box. Custom fireworks display. All funds to to needed repairs on the Community Center.

 

Cameron Connection

Cameron ISD will host Cameron Connection at Bea’s Kitchen on Oct. 10 beginning at 6 p.m. All parents and community members are invited. The goal is to solicit input from parents/community members to better understand and reach youth to provide necessary information to help CISD achieve its mission. Staff members from all campuses, superintendent and school board will be present at each meeting.

 

SteakToberfest

Cameron Chamber of Commerce and Working for Cameron will host the  SteakTober Fest featuring 44 Farms Ribeye Steaks in the Steak Cook-off Association competition on Oct. 14 in downtown Cameron from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Fifty steak cookers are anticipated to participate. For entry application visit www.cameron-tx.com. The Chamber will be selling 44 Farms Ribeye Steak Dinner tickets, with baked potato, salad, homemade bread, homemade dessert and tea/water. Steaks will be prepared by a chef from YO Ranch Steakhouse.  The dinner will begin at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Chamber of Commerce. 44 Farms will be on site with 44 Farms Products, demonstrations and information. Artisans will have pottery, stain glass, paintings, metal and wood work, jewelry, homemade breads and other artisans with art for sale. Wineries will set up booths for your sipping enjoyment with wine pairing and history of their vineyards, to add to the enjoyment of the day’s events. All genres of music will be on all corners of the square, from polka, to country, rock, jazz and bluegrass.

Master Gardners Rose Sale

Are you looking forward to the fall weather and being able to get back in your garden? In anticipation of that time, Little River Basin Master Gardeners of Milam County are having their Fall Blooming Beauty Rose Sale on Oct. 14. The good news is that the sale will be held in two locations: the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and downtown Cameron at the Steaktoberfest from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. These blooming beauties will sell for $18, which is under market value and you pay no tax since LRBMG is a non-profit organization.

Yoe High will host a FAFSA night Oct. 17 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. All Seniors and their parents are encouraged to attend. Temple College Financial Aide personnel will be on hand to assist in this application process. 

 

Rice Cemetery Annual Meeting

Rice Cemetery will hold its Annual Meeting on Oct. 21 at 11 a.m., take Highway 36 to CR 241 in Cameron. Bring a covered dish for lunch and lawn chairs for seating. History of Milam County

The “History of Milam County” by Leila Batte is now on sale at the Milam County Museum. This invaluable volume has been out of print for over 64 years, so we are offering this opportunity to own one of the 500 copies made available by the museum. Videos of Judge Black presentation on sale

In 2014 Judge William Black presented a talk about his father “The Life and Times of Sheriff Carl Black” at the Milam County Historical Museum. The museum now has DVD recordings of that presentation available for purchase at the museum located at 112 W. 1st, Cameron.
