Non-district slate continues for Lady Yoe
Service Directory
The Cameron Lady Yoe are now in the thick of their non-district schedule. Cameron just completed their second tournament of the year at Leon this past week and will be in Robinson starting today. Cameron also has regular matches sandwiched in-between all of that. One of those games occurred Tuesday evening with Gatesville coming to Yoe Gym.
Cameron started off hot as they have plenty of times this season, taking the opening set off of the Lady Hornets, 25-20.
However, the tide of momentum turned after that as Gatesville took sets three and four with the same 25-21 scores before coasting in the fourth, 25-15 to take the match.
Gracen Dach’s all around efforts on the court helped Cameron take the opener. Dach had a pair of aces early on to put Cameron up 4-3 and then 6-3. Up 24-20, she wrapped up the set by pounding home a kill in the middle of the court.
Darci Denio set up the eventual winning point by successfully getting over an ace.
Gatesville (10-6) did cut down on their errors the rest of the match and proceeded to get their offense going. In total, the Lady Hornets had 22 kills in the final three games.
Cameron never surrendered as Lauryn Leftwich and Carley Tucker each converted a kill down the stretch to try and provide a spark.
Tucker led the team with 10 kills and 4 blocks. Denio had 50 sets, Alexis Vargas came in with 14 digs, and Dach had 3 aces.
Leon Tournament
Cameron struggled throughout tournament play in the Jewett Leon tournament, but managed to win one game during bracket play to finish as the second place team in the bronze bracket.
The Lady Yoe opened action by dropping matches to Leon JV, Grapeland and Teague on Thursday. Those fortunes did not change on Friday as the ladies fell to Normangee, Franklin and Robinson.
Cameron did win their opening match Saturday over Brazos Christian before wrapping up the tournament with a two-set loss to Palestine Westwood.
Robinson Tournament
The third tournament of 2017 will take place in Robinson this Thursday and Saturday. Cameron (4-13) is going to be in pool C with the likes of China Spring, Longview Spring Hill and Huntington. Games times are as follows: Cameron Yoe Vs. Huntington - 3:00; Cameron Yoe
Vs. Spring Hill - 5:00; Cameron Yoe Vs. China Spring - 6:00.
All teams will return on Saturday for bracket play. Those times will be decided after pool play has been completed on Thursday. On Friday, Cameron will be hosting Navasota in a regular match. The freshmen and JV will get going around 5:00 p.m. with the varsity to follow.
