Westbrook to make NFL debut on Thursday

After being drafted by the Jackonville Jaguars as the third pick in the fourth round (110th overall) of the NFL draft, former Yoemen and Oklahoma Sooner receiver Dede Westbrook is now getting a chance to showcase his skills to a national audience. Jacksonville is set to play their first preseason game on the year Thursday on the road at Super Bowl defending champ New England. The game is scheduled to begin at 6:30. You can see the full tape-delay version at 11:00 p.m. tonight on the NFL Network.

According to sources, Westbrook is in the mix for a starting slot receiver spot on the Jaguar roster, and the rookie should get plenty of opportunities to showcase his skills during the preseason schedule.

Football practice begins

Despite a rain-soaked Monday morning, the Yoemen got in their first full day of football practice. Approximately 100 Yoemen suited out for the start of 2-a-days, which will stretch all the way to the first week of school on Monday, August 28. To compare, a total of 86 players

showed up for day one of practice in 2016. The first few days of workouts allow for players to wear only a helmet and shorts, instead of full pads.

That will change on Saturday in the intrasquad scrimmage from Yoe Field. The freshmen and JV will get going at 8:00 a.m. with the varsity to follow around 10:00 a.m.

Yoe Cards For Sale

One of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the athletic boosters is going on right now. Yoe Cards were handed out to athletes last Thursday and are now available for purchase. The cost of the card is $20, with the proceeds going to cover expenses that the athletic programs incur throughout the year. The card has a variety of different money-saving coupons to use around town.

A big difference in this year’s card is that only local businesses are featured. In the past, a mix of Cameron and Temple area locations have been included. Get in contact with any Yoe athlete to make your purchase. The cards will be on sale until Saturday afternoon.
