Yoe basketball competes at state

For the first time in school history, the Yoe basketball team competed in state basketball tournament this past weekend in the Dallas/Forth Worth area. Cameron did not manage to win a game, finishing 0-6, but the experienced gained should prove to be beneficial for new head coach Nicholas Burns and his attempt to build the program.

Cameron lost pool games to Kemp (43-37), Peaster (61-55), Texarkana Pleasant Grove (80-68) and Princeton (35-20). Despite the four losses, Cameron was still in the championship bracket and drew Holliday, which went 3-1 in their pool play games. The Yoemen dropped that game, 48-34, and another consolation game to Palmer, 43-36 to wrap up tournament play.

Bowie ended up knocking off Holliday in the championship game, 52-44.

Broussard departs Cameron

This week, Yoe head baseball coach John Broussard accepted the head baseball position at 3A Gateway Prep High School in Georgetown. In his time in charge of the Yoe baseball program, Broussard led Cameron to eight playoff appearances, including a state championship in 2011.

“Being in Cameron has been very rewarding,” said Broussard.. “A lot of great things happened during my nine years at Cameron ISD and I appreciate all of the support during my time here. I have had the opportunity to work with a lot of great kids, faculty and administration. Once a Yoemen always a Yoemen.”
 

Gateway Prep made the state tournament this past year out of region four and finished with a 23-3-1 overall record. The Yoemen finished 19-8-1 this past season with a bi-district finish.

Layne throws no-hitter on summer baseball action

Yoe High baseball player Anthony Layne most recently threw a no-hitter for the Brazos Valley Renegades in an 8-0 win over Cage Nation during summer tournament action. Layne will be a junior during the 2017-2018 sports season.

Former Yoe baseballer commits to Hardin-Simmons

After spending two years at Galveston College, former Yoe shortstop Jaime Dominguez will be continuing his baseball career at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene for his junior and senior seasons.

Cheer Camp

The 2017 summer cheer camp will take place on July 22 from the Yoe High Gym. The camp will be from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and will be for children aged four all the way up to fifth grade. Lunch will be provided, but all campers should bring a water bottle with their name on it. All early registered campers will receive a t-shirt. Additionally, all campers will get to cheer at a pep rally and football game. Make checks payable to Yoe High Cheerleaders.

Volleyball Camp

The Lady Yoe volleyball camp will take place from July 26 up until July 28. The camp will be at the Yoe High Gym and is for all incoming fifth through eighth graders and ninth through twelfth graders. The younger group will go from 8:30-11:30 while the older girls will work from 1:30-4:30. The cost is $50 per camper.

Football Camp

The Yoemen football camp will get underway on July 31 and will run through August 3 from the Lester and Beatrice Williams Strength and Conditioning Center and Yoe Field. The two age groups include incoming third through sixth and seventh through ninth graders. The youngsters will go from 8-10 while the older group will hit the field from 10:30 to 12:30. The cost per camper is $45. Campers will need to bring their own shorts, t-shirt, cleats and a towel. You can register the day of the camp. Please make all checks payable to Yoe Football Camp.
