Berta Jean Woelfel

Berta Jean Woelfel, 72, of San Antonio, passed away Friday, June 23, 2017, in Schertz. 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale, with burial following at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2017, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.

 Berta was born Oct. 28, 1944, in Williamson County to Willis Arthur and Berdie Lee Gambrell. She graduated from Thorndale High School. Berta married Milton Woelfel Aug. 15, 1963, at Trinity United Methodist Church in Thorndale and soon after, they moved to San Antonio. She was a member of King of Kings Church in San Antonio.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Milton Woelfel; granddaughter, Courtney Woelfel; parents, Willis and Berdie Gambrell; and sister-in-law, Jeanette Sturdivant.

 Berta is survived by her sons, Kevin Woelfel and wife Julie of Lubbock, and Dwayne Woelfel of Taylor; daughter, Sara Self and husband Kenneth of Cibolo; grandchildren, Michelle Bastemeyer, Joshua Woelfel, Stephanee Self, Tate Woelfel, Austin Woelfel, Casey Self and Lindsey Woelfel; great-grandchildren, Brittnee, Breeana and Brooklyn Bastemeyer; brother, Darrell Gambrell and wife Ruby; sister, Charlyne McDaniel and husband Monty; brothers-in-law, Leroy Woelfel and wife Norma, Larry Woelfel and wife Mary, and Darrell Sturdivant; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

 Pallbearers are Joshua Woelfel, Tate Woelfel, Austin Woelfel, Casey Self, Devan McDaniel and Dale Gambrell.
