Both golf team in good shape after first half of district

The Yoe golf teams competed in the first round of District at Wildflower Country Club in Temple on Monday. After half of the competition, both the boys and girls teams are in prime position, each sitting in second place, respectively. The Lady Yoe shot a 451 collectively and Kegan Galvan and Alexis Magre both had the same 102 mark to lead the ladies. Lyndy Laurell of Rockdale leads all individual golfers with a 95. Cameron currently sits behind first place Rockdale (440) by 11 strokes. The Yoemen shot a 384 as a team on Tuesday in Temple. Nikolas Keratsopoulos was the team leader with an 86. The sophomore is just 5 strokes behind Doss Hasselback (81), the leader from Rockdale. Rockdale also leads the boys standings at 358.

Both teams with finish their district competition next Monday at Texas A&M Campus Course with a shotgun start scheduled for 8:30 AM. The top two teams from each district advance to regionals. The Lady Yoe have a 117 stroke lead on Academy for second while the Yoemen are up 37 strokes on the Bees.

 

Yoe baseball consistent in rankings

On Monday, the updated baseball rankings from TxHighSchoolBaseball.com were released. The Yoemen, which have been as high as #18 at one point in the season, currently sit at number 20. Rogers, which currently leads 20-3A, is at #18. Groesbeck (7), Troy (9), Clifton (16) and West (17) are all ranked from 19-3A. Cameron’s district will draw 19-3A in the first round of the playoffs. Lago Vista remains at the top of the rankings at 18-2. Central Heights is the highest ranked region III team at number three. If the rankings were to hold true, Clyde would represent region I, Gunter would come out of region II, Central Heights would be from region III, and Lago Vista would come from region IV. Thorndale (10-3) is fourth in the state in 2A.

 

Latest softball rankings

In the April 3 Texas Girls Coaches Association softball poll, Academy is the lone representative from 20-3A in the rankings, coming in at number four in the state. The Bees are currently 20-6 on the season. Other area teams ranked include West (21-2-1) at number one, Whitney (19-3) at 15 and Florence (13-5) at 16. The Lady Dogs or Thorndale (19-2) are ranked sixth in 2A.
