Nettie Dee Harper, 92, of Thorndale, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2017, in Georgetown. Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale, with burial following at the Taylor City Cemetery in Taylor. Visitation was held April 4, 2017, at the funeral home.
Nettie Dee was born Nov. 13, 1924, in Thorndale to Thomas Walter Sr. and Norine (Cowan) Beard. She worked as a teacher’s aide and librarian in Thorndale until the age of 19 when she moved to Murfreesboro, Tenn., where she worked in the First United Methodist Church nursery. She moved back to Thorndale in 1975. Nettie Dee was a member of the Pleasant Retreat United Methodist Church in Thorndale and was involved in various activities and groups at the church. She taught Sunday School at the church and also serviced as the church librarian.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Torrey Harper Sr.; infant son, Samuel Elliott Harper; daughter, Melissa E. Stolte; parents, Thomas Walter Sr. and Norine Beard; and brother, Thomas Walter Beard Jr.
Nettie Dee is survived by her sons, Charles T. Harper Jr. and wife Irene of Georgetown, and Stephen D. Harper of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Sheila Michelle Harper of Coupland, Jessica Marie Jezisek and husband Adam of Granger, Megan Renee Stolte of Thorndale, and Shelby Lynn Stolte of College Station; great-grandchild, Kaden Combs (Jezisek); and nephew, Thomas W. Beard III of San Antonio.
