Service Directory
The Cameron softball team took on Caldwell in the first regular season home game of the year on Friday. The Lady Yoe hung tough with the defending 4A regional finalist for four innings before giving up nine runs in the final three frames in a 11-1 loss.
Cameron, which fell to Bryan Rudder in the season opener on Monday, 12-2, drop to 0-2 on the young season.
“I think playing teams like Bryan and Caldwell are really good competition for us,” said head coach Abraham Vargas. “Like I told the ladies before the game started, we are going to face adversity. That is great for us to see how we handle adversity. We have to learn how to respond to adversity when you play a team like Caldwell. Traditionally, they have always been really good.”
Kenzie Wimmer plated the Lady Yoe’s lone run of the game in the bottom of the first, scoring Daniella Hill to put Cameron up 1-0. The Lady Hornets scored 1 run in the second, 1 in the third, 3 in the fifth, 5 in the sixth and 1 in the seventh to take control.
Caldwell finished with 13 hits and no errors. Cameron had 6 hits and 4 errors. Wimmer was 2-3 from the plate with a triple. Madison Brunson, Ny’eli Yglecias, Molly Oeges and Ashlee Balch each had one hit apiece.
Vargas said after the game that his team will continue to work on improving their all-around game.
“We need to get better at what we’re doing. We’re young and we’re missing a player and that does make a difference in our lineup. We need to get better defensively and in our at-bats.”
