Suszanne Schneider Zajicek

Suszanne (Schneider) Zajicek separated body and soul at approximately 3:25 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11.

She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Schneider; brother, Kevin Schneider; and mother, Shirley Ruth (Burran) Schneider.

She was born on July 15, 1952.

She is survived by her husband, Jackie Zajicek; daughter, Tracy Allen; and grandchildren, Corson and Lillie.

Suszanne graduated from Rogers High School. She obtained a basketball scholarship and graduated from Texas Women’s University. In 1976, she was a first alternate to the US Women’s Olympic Basketball team. That year she began to date her future husband. This was interrupted as she had also signed a deferred enlistment into service with the US Navy. She received an honorable discharge in 1982 having developed breast cancer while in the service. In 1983 she married and had her daughter the following year. This was against medical advice due to her cancer history and she had to change doctors to locate one who would support her decision to have a child. She survived a second bout with breast cancer in 1985. She remained cancer free until 2015.

She enjoyed outdoor work, caring for her yard grounds, house painting and renovation work. She renovated several working with her mother. She enjoyed spending time at Lake Buchanan and Kingsland on Lake LBJ.

Over the last decade of her life she served as her mother’s primary care giver during her battles with cancer and heart problems until her death in October 2015.

In December of 2015 Suszanne was diagnosed with leiomyosarcoma, a very aggressive form of the disease.  She underwent chemotherapy and radiation treatments, fighting against the disease’s progress over the year.  She died under hospice care at her home, according to her wishes.
