No. 20 Bulldogs defeat Rosebud-Lott, set for Weimar Friday

The No. 20 Thorndale Bulldogs (13-6) defeated Rosebud-Lott 79-39 at Bulldog Gym on Tuesday night. It was a tight game at the end of the first, with the Bulldogs up just 12-9. But Thorndale then broke the game wide open in the second quarter, extending its lead to 38-19 by halftime.
The Bulldogs outscored the Cougars 41-20 in the second half.
Sophomore Sam Reaves led Thorndale with 18 points on the night. He was joined in double digits by juniors Ashton Albert (16), Ty Prince (15) and Logan Fisher (10).
Fellow junior Mason Fisher added five points, with senior Josh Iselt and junior Lane Niemtschk scoring four points each. Senior Ruben Briones and Evan Ivy, a sophomore, each put up three points and senior Ryan Biar added one.
The Bulldogs are scheduled to play at Weimar on Friday and hit the road again on Tuesday to face Dime Box in Thorndale’s final warm up game before District 25-2A play starts on Jan. 13.
The Bulldogs went to East Texas on Dec. 28-30 and played in the Tenaha tournament. Thorndale went 1-3 in the tourney.
They started play on Dec. 28 and defeated Gary 49-35. The Bulldogs led 16-7 after one quarter and 24-16 by halftime. Thorndale outscored Gary 25-19 in the second half.
Reaves and Prince put up 16 points each in the win. Logan Fisher, Albert and Iselt all had four apiece, with Mason Fisher scoring three and Ivy recording two points.
Later that evening the Bulldogs fell to No. 21 San Augustine 74-72. Thorndale led 22-10 after the first and 40-33 at halftime. Both teams scored 19 points in the third quarter, but San Augustine outscored Thorndale 22-13 in the final quarter.
Despite the loss, Albert had a stellar game, scoring 34 points. Mason Fisher and Prince added eight points each, with Niemtschk recording five. Logan Fisher, Reaves and Iselt all scored four and Ashton Schaefer put up three.
On Dec. 29, the Bulldogs fell to Sabine 57-40. The teams were tied 13-13 after the first quarter, but Sabine had gained a 35-23 lead by halftime. Thorndale was then outscored 22-17 in the second half.
Reaves and Prince both scored in double figures with 16 and 11 points, respectively. Logan Fisher put up four points. Albert, Niemtschk, Schaefer and Ivy all scored two points and Iselt had one.
On Dec. 30, the Bulldogs fell to No. 6 LaPoynor 52-46 in their final game of the tourney. LaPoynor led 15-8 after the first quarter and 26-15 by halftime. Thorndale tried a comeback in the third taking a 37-34 lead. LaPoynor outscored the Bulldogs 18-9 in the final quarter to take the win.
Prince led the Bulldog effort with 18 points and Albert added nine. Reaves recorded five points in the loss and Mason Fisher four points.
Briones and Ivy tallied three points each in the loss and Logan Fisher and Schaefer each scored two.
