Week 10 Football Outlook

Cameron Yoe (7-2/4-1) Vs. Troy (4-4/2-2)

After the loss to Rockdale, it was very important for the Yoemen to respond.  The 63-0 win over Academy this past week went about as well as you could have expected, as the Yoemen were dominant in every phase of the game.  This week’s contest versus Troy is even more important.  Cameron has a bye the last week of the regular season, so this is the final tune-up for the playoffs.  Since 2010, the Yoemen have been very dominant in this last district game, with wins over Troy in 2010 (48-14), Troy in 2011 (38-7), Florence in 2012 (56-0), Florence in 2013 (77-0), Academy in 2014 (47-7) and Academy in 2015 (49-14).  Cameron has traditionally given Troy problems and will have a big advantage in the speed category.  At the end of the day, another strong, well executed performance is what all Yoe fans should look for this week.

Around Milam County

Buckholts (2-5/0-1) Vs. Calvert (8-0/1-0)

The Badgers managed to put up 81 points versus Prairie Lea in their district opener.  Unfortunately, the Indians put up 102 to send the Badgers to 0-1 in district play.  Things only get tougher from this point on as Calvert, which is 8-0 and ranked #2 in the state in the latest Sixmanfootball.com rankings, is up next.  The Trojans had some close calls earlier in the season but easily got by Oglesby last week, 62-14.

Josh’s Pick: Calvert by 28+

Milano (2-6/1-2) Vs. Snook (4-4/2-1)

#6 Burton proved to be too much for the Eagles, 43-13.  Milano is still in a very good position for the playoffs, and will more than likely finish either third or fourth. A victory over Snook this week would get Milano a step closer to accomplishing that goal.  Snook fell to Burton (51-6) to open district, but has since won games over Bartlett (27-14) and Somerville (52-15).  Milano has also defeated Bartlett, 45-8.

Josh’s Pick: Milano by 7.

Rosebud-Lott (2-6/0-3) Vs. Thorndale (3-5/2-1)

It was tight, but Thorndale fell to Holland (38-27) in week nine action.  Much like Milano, Thorndale still controls their own destiny and is in good position for the playoffs with just two weeks to play.  This week is a must-win game versus Rosebud-Lott.  The Cougars have struggled mightily the last three weeks, going 0-3 while being outscored 145-43.  Moody is the only common opponent.  Thorndale beat the Bearcats, 49-28, while Rosebud-Lott lost, 49-22. 

Josh’s Pick: Thorndale by 17.

Around 10-3A

Franklin (7-1/3-1) Vs. Rockdale (7-1/4-0)

This is going to be the top matchup to watch in Central Texas for week ten.  Both of these teams know what is on the line with regards to playoff positioning.  Each are known for putting up plenty of points, and this game could come down to who can get that critical stop or who doesn’t make the critical mistake.  While it will be a challenge for Rockdale to stop the powerful slot-t rushing attack, it will also be another challenge for Franklin to contain the speed from the Tigers.

Josh’s Pick: Rockdale by 3.

McGregor (3-5/1-3) Vs. Little River Academy (4-4/1-3)

McGregor may be two games under .500 on the season, but this team is still dangerous.  The Bulldogs played Franklin to a three-point game, and just this past week took Rockdale down to the wire, 41-34.  With those close results, McGregor is still ranked as high as 15 in some statewide division one polls.  Academy still has a slim shot at the playoffs, but will have to beat both McGregor and Franklin to get in.

Josh’s Pick: McGregor by 24.

Around the State

Teague (7-1/5-0) Vs. Malakoff (8-0/5-0)

This game will decide who finishes first and who finishes second in 9-3A.  Cameron’s district (10-3A) will meet up with these teams in the bi-district round.  There is a very real chance that Cameron could finish as the number three seed and play the loser of this game in two weeks.  Based on early results from the season, Teague appeared to be down somewhat from their past two runs.  The Lions have really turned the corner the last two games, scoring 42 on Whitney by the half followed up by an impressive 41-7 victory over Groesbeck.  Malakoff has been the most impressive team in the region all season.  The Tigers have yet to play the starters a full four quarters. 

Josh’s Pick: Malakoff by 21.

Liberty Hill (5-2/2-1) Vs. China Spring (7-12-1)

The big matchup in this district between La Vega and China Spring took place two weeks ago, with the Pirates pulling out a 17-10 win.  The Cougars seemed to let that loss carry over to next week, as Gatesville led China Spring at the break (21-15) before Coach Bell and his staff turned things around for a 46-21 win.  China Spring will be favored over Liberty Hill, but another slow start could prove to be more costly in this one.
