Jarrell, Lexington drop Cameron in straight sets

If the playoffs were going to be in the Lady Yoe’s future plans, victories over Jarrell and Lexington were crucial.  The ladies sat at just 1-7 entering play last Friday, so a long stretch of wins was needed to get back into the playoff hunt.

 

The ladies had shown glimpses of solid play through parts of district, but Jarrell and Lexington proved to be too much, easily getting by Cameron in straight sets. 

 

Jarrell

Cameron fell to Jarrell on Friday from Yoe Gym, 16-25, 16-25 and 10-25.  Kenzie Wimmer and Savannah Kruse tied for the team lead in kills at five. 

 

Darci Denio had six assists while Wimmer and Carley Tucker each had five.  Jazmin Vaculin had 14 digs on the evening.  Wimmer had two aces.

 

Other results included Rogers earning a 3-0 set victory over Hearne while Franklin also swept Rockdale.  Lexington clipped Academy, 3-2.

 

Standings after Friday’s play:  1. Rogers (8-1); 1. Franklin (8-1); 3. Jarrell (7-2); 4. Lexington (5-4); 5. Academy (4-5); 6. Rockdale (3-6); 7. Cameron Yoe (1-8); 8. Hearne (0-9).

 

The Lady Yoe freshmen (25-14, 25-18) and JV (25-17, 21-25, 25-12) both earned victories over Jarrell. 

 

Lexington

 

Cameron was back on the road Tuesday evening at Lexington.  The Lady Eagles just picked up a critical win over Academy on Friday to remain alone in the fourth and final spot for the playoffs. 

 

The Lady Yoe got off to a hot 3-0 start thanks to a block from Daiya Braziel and a couple of errors by Lady Eagles.  Later, Kruse got another block to extend the ladies lead to 7-1, which was one of the best stretches of the season. 

 

After a timeout, Lexington went on a 11-3 run to go ahead 12-10.  A Denio kill cut the lead down to 16-15, but the ladies fell in the set, 25-20.

 

Lexington jumped on Cameron to start the second, 6-1.  Tucker cut into the lead with a kill in the middle of the court to cut the deficit to 12-7.  The Lady Yoe could draw no closer, falling 25-14.

 

Third set action saw Lexington double up the ladies early, 12-6.  A pair of attacking errors cut the lead to 12-8.  Cameron had a few more kills in the set but Lexington pulled away to win, 25-11.

 

Kruse had 10 kills while Braziel had five.  Denio did have two aces from the service line.

 

The freshmen (18-25, 18-25) and JV (21-25, 22-25) both fell to Lexington. 

 

Cameron will be on the road at rival Rockdale (4:30) on Friday before returning home on Tuesday to host Hearne (5:00).
