Week 6 Football Outlook

Cameron Yoe (4-1/1-0) Vs. Franklin (5-0/1-0)

This will be the biggest game in 3A for week six.  Franklin has been one of the more impressive teams in the state and many feel this could be the first of two meetings between these two teams.  Malakoff may have something to say about that when the time comes, but right now these are two of the top five teams in 3A.  The biggest matchup to watch in this game is the Yoe defensive front versus the Franklin offensive line.   The Yoemen have a lot of experience with slot-t teams and will need to slow down a rushing attack that has not been forced into many tough situations this season.  Offensively, Cameron has potential to have a good amount of success in this game.  The Yoemen’s multi-dimensional attack and speed could be a difference maker.  In the past couple of weeks, Cameron has played much better in the second half of their games.  If we get a complete, well-executed four quarters this week, I see this as a winnable game.  I do encourage all Yoe fans to show up early and show strong support from the opening kick.  This game will have a playoff feel to it.

Around Milam County

Round Rock Christian Academy (2-2) Vs. Buckholts (1-3)

The Badgers had over 300 yards of total offense last week, but could not hold off Parkview in a 31-27 loss.  Buckholts had a 20-12 lead at half and a 20-18 lead at the end of three, but a late surge by Parkview in the fourth was the difference.  Round Rock Christian Academy is another unknown opponent.  The Crusaders did defeat district foe Prairie Lea in week four, 65-40.  That is Prairie Lea’s only loss this season.

Josh’s Pick: Round Rock Christian Academy by 14.

Around 10-3A

Little River Academy (4-1/1-0) Vs. Rockdale (3-1/0-0)

On records alone, you would think this would be a good matchup.  While Rockdale had their bye last week, Academy opened up district play with a 29-21 win over Jarrell.  The Bees held a 22-0 lead at the half but the Cougars went on a second half run to close the gap.  Jarrell had lost to Lexington the previous week, 76-7.  Rockdale defeated Lexington, 62-35.  Though it is more about individual game matchups, the Tigers should be a heavy favorite here.

Josh’s Pick: Rockdale by 28+

Troy (2-3/0-1) Vs. Jarrell (1-4/0-1)

If either one of these teams wants a shot at the playoffs, this is a must-win.  The Trojans have struggled the past three weeks, giving up 168 points while only scoring 42.  Jarrell was ranked inside the top 25 of some preseason polls, but has really had a rough go of it in the early going.  The Cougars only win of the season came in week three over Thorndale, 42-19.  Troy has lost three in a row, but this could be a confidence booster.

Around the State

Iowa Park (5-0) Vs. Wall (3-1)

This could be Wall’s toughest challenge yet.  After suffering a tough 1-point loss to Cisco, the Hawks have responded with two nice wins over Lago Vista (62-14) and Eastland (28-14).  Iowa Part has yet to lose a game and is a top 20 4A team.  Brock has been very impressive in the early going.  If Wall wants to be a threat to the Eagles out of region I, this is a game that they should win.

Josh’s Pick: Wall by 3.

Kirbyville (4-1) Vs. Woodville (4-1)

Before the season started, not many would have predicted this was going to be a game to watch.  Kirbyville was expected to be strong and has been a district title contender the past few seasons.  On the other hand, Woodville has been average the last few seasons, but that does not appear to be the case in 2016.  This is only the first game of district, but it could go a long way in deciding who is at the top.    

Josh’s Pick: Kirbyville by 1.
