Lady Yoe win first district match

The past few weeks have been tough for the Lady Yoe.  Players have been in and out of the lineup with injuries and that has translated to a 0-4 start in district 20-3A play.  On Friday, the ladies picked up some confidence in a victory over the Hearne Lady Eagles, 3-1.  Cameron traveled to Academy on Tuesday, but fell in straight sets.

Serving was a big reason why the Lady Yoe picked up their first district win of the year.  The ladies were able to limit mistakes and got over 24 aces in the match.   

 

Darci Denio and Kenzie Wimmer each have six aces each while Gracen Dach (five) and Jazmin Vaculin (five) both served well for Cameron.

 

The match was tied at 1-1 before the ladies easily put the match away with a 25-8 win in set number three followed up by a 25-12 win in set number four.  

 

Savannah Kruse has led the team in the kill category, but is currently out with an injury.  

 

Many others stepped up to carry the load.  Wimmer led the team with eight kills.  Daiya Braziel came in with five while Denio had four.   Vaculin had 18 digs while Denio came in with 13 assists.

 

The Lady Yoe freshmen (25-11, 25-14) and JV (25-19, 25-13) both picked up victories over Hearne.  

 

In all other district action, sweeps were in order.  Rogers over Rockdale, Academy over Jarrell and Franklin over Lexington were all quick three-set victories.

 

District standings after Friday’s play: 1. Rogers (5-0); 2. Jarrell (4-1); Franklin (4-1); 4. Lexington (3-2); 5. Academy (2-3); 6. Cameron Yoe (1-4); 6. Rockdale (1-4); 8. Hearne (0-5).  

 

Academy

The Lady Bees had struggled through their first four district matches, going just 1-3.  However, Academy bounced back in a big way with a straight set victory over previously unbeaten Jarrell.  

 

Cameron was coming off of a win, so momentum was with both squads heading into Tuesday’s action.

 

First set action saw the Lady Yoe jump out to a 2-0 lead but Academy quickly went up 9-3 to take control of the set.  The ladies managed to stay competitive the remainder of the way, but fell 25-13.  

 

Academy carried momentum over into the second set, taking a commanding 14-6 lead before Lady Yoe head coach Kamol Nohe was forced to take a timeout.  Academy went on to win the second, 25-12.  

 

Denio and the Lady Yoe never quit in the third, going up 2-0 on back-to-back aces.  The ladies stretched the lead to 7-3 after a Wimmer kill.  That lead would quickly evaporate as Academy went up 15-11 before closing out the match, 25-12.

 

Braziel had three kills while Denio had five assists. Dach and Wimmer each had two aces.  

Cameron will return to action on Friday at Franklin.  The big Dig Pink game versus Rogers will be at Yoe Gym on Tuesday, October 4.
