Sts. Cyril & Methodius Homecoming

Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Marak will host the annual homecoming picnic on Sunday, Sept. 11. Mass begins at 10:15 a.m. and dinner will begin at 11 a.m. with a home fried chicken and sausage dinner for $10 a plate. Dine-in, drive through service and to-go plates will be available. Games begin at noon and entertainment will be provided by the Praha Brothers from 12:30-3:30 p.m. The fund raising auction will begin at 3:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. The church is located seven miles northwest of Cameron on FM 2269.

 

Movie Night

The Milam County Retired School Personnel members will sponsor the Alfred Hitchcock movie classic, “North by Northwest” at the Kay Theater in Rockdale at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13.  The Milam County community is invited to join as the group pays tribute to the 100th birthday of the National Park Service. Admission is just $5.

Cameron Rotary Club Spaghetti Supper

The Annual Cameron Rotary Club Spaghetti Supper will take place Friday, Sept. 16, from 5-7 p.m. This is the night of the Cameron Yoe Homecoming game. Tickets are $8. The meal includes the spaghetti, salad, garlic bread, dessert and drink (dine-in only for drink).

 

Good News Club meetings begin Sept. 19

The Good News Club will begin meeting Sept. 19 at 3:30 p.m. after school at Cameron Elementary School and continue for six weeks, coordinator Kathy Logan announced.

Good News Clubs are after-school Bible Clubs designed to give kids an encouraging, loving, safe place to visit while having fun and learning about Jesus Christ. Singing songs, playing games, listening to Bible stories, and hearing tales of missionaries are appealing to every child. The sessions include Bible lessons, creative learning activities, inspiring missionary stories, meaningful songs and scripture memory activities. Teachers meet with groups of children in places like community centers, churches, apartment complexes, day care centers, private homes – just about anywhere the children can easily and safely meet with their parent’s permission.

 

Grace Church plans Fun Festival

Grace Church is planning a Family Fun Festival Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with live music, barbecue plates, craft and vendor booths, and carnival games for the kids. Everyone is encouraged to plans and bring family and friends to enjoy the day. VFW annual hunting season fund raiser

Cameron VFW Post 2010 is holding the annual hunter’s raffle fund raising drawing with a 2016 ODES four-wheeler as the prize. Tickets are on sale now and the drawing will be held at 8 p.m. Oct. 29 at the VFW Canteen. The winner does not have to be present to win. Videos of Judge Black presentation on sale

In 2014 Judge William Black presented a talk about his father “The Life and Times of Sheriff Carl Black” at the Milam County Historical Museum. The museum now has DVD recordings of that presentation available for purchase at the museum located at 112 W. 1st, Cameron.

 

VFW Karaoke events

Cameron VFW Post 2010 hosts Karaoke on the first and third Friday nights featuring DJ Mr. D. Everyone is invited to join the fun from 8 p.m. to midnight.

 

Online Czech classes

The Czech Heritage Museum & Genealogy Center in Temple will host live, online Czech classes offered by the Schulenburg Campus of Blinn College. The beginner level, non-credit classes will be taught by Blinn College professor Thadious Polasek and will held from 7-9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the museum, located at 119 W. French Avenue. Classes will begin on August 30 and a partial scholarship is available to all students. To register for the class, call (979) 743-5373.
