Funeral services for Dorothy Jean Gommert Price, 79 of Ferriday, La. was held at Ridgecrest Baptist Church on Sunday, July 3, with Bro. Dennis Baker officiating. Interment followed at Highland Park Cemetery, Sicily Island, La., under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home.

Dorothy Jean Price was born on Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1936 in Temple, Bell County, Texas, to Charlie Herman Gommert and Ida Edna Hagemeister Gommert. She departed her earthly home after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s to go to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Riverland Medical Center.

She was a member and baptized, receiving confirmation at an early age, at Hope Lutheran Church in Buckholts. She married Ivy Raplh “Bud” Price on March 21, 1954 while he was serving our Country and stationed at Fort Hood. She is a graduate from Buckholts High School in Buckholts in 1954. She moved to the Ferriday area after her husband was discharged from the army in 1958. She was a member of Tensas First Baptist Church in Waterproof, La. where she was baptizied by Rev. Nikolai Alexandrenko. Moving her membership to Sycamore Baptist Church near Vidalia, La.; then to First Baptist Church in Ferriday, LA and lastly to Ridgecrest Baptist Church in Ridgecrest, LA.

She was a loving and caring mother and wife who firmly believed that her family would attend church faithfully. She loved being involved in the church, especially with the youth group and singing in the choir at Sycamore Baptist Church. She had many, many friends that she loved and thought of regular.

We now celebrate mama’s home going - for we know now that she is healed of her illness and celebrating with her heavenly father, her husband, daughter and all of her family, friends and other loving ones that have gone on to glory before her. For we know now that she is walking, talking, singing, and praising the Lord.

Mrs. Price’s family wishes to thank Dr. Sarah Lee and her staff; the healthcare staff at Riverland Medical Center and a special thanks to her caregivers - Elnora Griggs, Annette Garrison, and the late Patricia Scott - who took wonderful care of our mother for many, many years. They were truly a Godsend to us.
