Deadline for candidate statements is Feb. 1

In the interest of helping keep our readers informed, The Cameron Herald invites candidates in the March 1 primary elections to submit statements about their candidacies for publication in The Cameron Herald free of charge.
Candidates are invited to submit their statements anytime during the month of January. We will make every effort to publish the statements in the edition closest to the date they are submitted.
Without exception, candidate statements must be submitted before 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1. Statements submitted on Feb. 1 will be published in the Feb. 4 edition.
Statements submitted after the deadline will not be published.
We welcome candidates to submit a statement, with a photo, outlining their background and specific reasons why they are the best choice.
Here are the guidelines:
1. Statements should focus on the candidate’s views about current issues involving the school district and the candidate’s qualifications.
2. Announcements should be no more than 300 words and typed. If submitted by e-mail, a Word document is fine. Please attach the photo separately.
3. A photo of the candidate is welcome. If you don’t have a photo, we are happy to take one for you, just call us at 697-6671 to arrange a time and place.
4. We intend to run announcements as submitted; however, the newspaper does reserve the right to edit all copy submitted for publication. If editing is necessary, the candidate will be contacted first.
5. Please include address, telephone and email address on the announcement so that we can follow up with any questions.
Statements may be emailed to Candace Velvin, publisher@cameronherald.com; dropped off at our office, 108 E. First St., downtown Cameron or mailed to P.O. Box 1230, Cameron, TX 76520.  Feel free to call us at 254-697-6671 for more information.
Again, we are providing this space at no charge to the candidates as a public service to our readers.
