Adella Nemec Schneider
Adella “Della” Nemec Schneider, 92, beloved wife, mother, and Granny, left her earthly home for her heavenly one on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015.
Adella was born July 14, 1923, in Milam County, to parents Frank and Mary Nemec. She grew up with her brother Frank and sister Estelle on the family farm. She was bilingual in Czech and English. She graduated from Ad Hall Rural High School, where she excelled in basketball. In fact, she met the love of her life, Louis Clarence Schneider, during one of her games in which he served as the referee. They married on March 23, 1943, and on March 23, 2013 celebrated 70 years of devotion.
Della and Lou moved to Pasadena in 1949. She began using her many talents to make a wonderful home in their community. She and Lou raised three sons, Gary, Glenn, and Mark in their house which they built. She loved their home and remained there all her life. She was a scratch cook, making delicious meals that utilized food from their garden. Della volunteered at Ethyl Corporation’s youth summer camps, enjoyed playing women’s softball, and she actively supported her sons’ baseball teams. She was a gifted seamstress, sewing everything needed and wanted by her family, including shirts, suits, dresses, drapes, and even upholstery. Her work exceeded professional standards.
Della loved being outdoors, laughing freely, and living the simple life. She loved mowing the grass, playing Scrabble, going to garage sales, and being with friends and neighbors. She never shied away from working hard, and had the stamina to complete any task she wanted. She loved spending time on the family farm in Milam County during their retirement years. Retirement didn’t mean not working, though. She continued to keep two homes for many years. She and Lou enjoyed raising cattle, listening to polka music, and going to family reunions.
Della loved her family deeply and leaves behind many memories for us to cherish. She was a proud and loving “Granny” to six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She left a valuable legacy of strength, perseverance, and courage. She shall be greatly missed. “Strength and dignity are her clothing; and she can laugh at the days to come. She opens her mouth in wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household, and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and bless her.” (Proverbs 31:25-28)
Adella is survived by sons Gary and his wife Paula, Glenn and his wife Ellen, Mark and his wife Lydia; grandchildren David, Angela, Anthony, Alison, Kevin, Lisa; great grandchildren Aaron, Jon, Reyleigh, Jillian, Jace, and Selah; sister Estelle Nemec Langer; sister-in-law Lessie Callan and her husband Warren, and other family and friends.
Adella was preceded in death by her loving husband, Louis Schneider, her brother, Frank Nemec, and brother-in-law Joe Langer.
The service will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 24, 2015 at Marek-Burns-Laywell Chapel, 2800 N. Travis, Cameron. Friends are invited to share memories with the family in the narthex of the chapel at 1 p.m. prior to the service. Mrs. Schneider will be laid to rest next to her husband at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers the family recommends donations to either the Alzheimer’s Association or the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
Della ran the race the Lord set before her. Through it all there were many challenges and blessings. The family wishes to express appreciation to Dr. Rachelle S. Doody and Dr. John D. Kirkwood. We extend our sincere gratitude to her caregivers, Rita and David Ewing, and Cecilia Fernandez for their years of loving care and devotion.
