Showing off Cameron's new multi-event complex, CISD ball field

City of Cameron and Cameron Independent School District officials joined CEDC directors for a final walk through and media day at the new C.H. Yoe High School Baseball Field and the EDC/city’s multiplex tourism event center Tuesday.
The project combines efforts of the three groups in the creation of a unique facility designed to capitalize on non-professional sports tourism.
After CISD voters approved a bond issue to fund athletic facilities improvements in 2014, the CEDC deeded the school district 3.74 acres of property for the CH Yoe High baseball field. The property was part of the land purchased with revenue from the voter-approved half-cent sales tax for economic development. The CEDC, CISD and city entered into a joint operating agreement whereby CISD has the use of the concession area, restrooms and parking for the multiplex tourism event center. According to Economic Development Director Ginger Watkins, this JOA enabled CISD to construct a premier baseball field with outstanding support facilities such as parking, concessions and restrooms, without having to actually construct and fund the support facilities, resulting in significant savings to the district.
The CEDC’s project also includes a farmers market, an open air flexible structure which provides much needed shade and a gathering area for high school games.
Likewise, an extensive plaza area between the event center building and the high schools field provides unique space for viewing games, gathering and staging events. The plaza has integrated tent tie-down capacity for team, fan and booster gathering.
