Cross country continues to show improvement

There were a lot of new faces on the Yoe cross country team to begin the season.  Since that point, Coach Dale Keen and his squads have been able to attend three meets.  There has been improvement week from week, and Cameron had their best finish yet this past weekend at Rogers.

 

“We ran much better in Rogers,” said Keen.  “Jose Osorio was seventh on varsity and should be runner of the week.  Frances Sims was the only girl to run varsity and was 43rd.  I thought she did well to do that in her first varsity race.”

 

Osorio has been the top runner for the Yoemen this year and posted his top performance of the season with a time of 17:39.3.  That was just over a minute behind the leader, Ivan Solis (16:12.9) of McGregor.

 

Rico Bolivar finished in 49th with a time of 20:02.9.  Eric came in 77th with a 23:47.3 mark.  

 

Robbie Pfeil was a top finisher for the JV boys division. Pfeil finished in 17th overall with a time of 21:23.6.  Joel Uvalle was in 31st at 27:07.6.  There were a total of 37 competitors in the boys JV division.  

 

In her first time at the varsity level, Sims’ time of 15:19.5 was good enough to beat out 25 other varsity runners.  

 

In the JV division, McKenzie Kurz (15th, 17:17.5), Rosa Valles (21st, 18:58.6), Harlie Halpain (23rd, 19:52.8), McKenzie Solicos (26th, 22:18.2) and Ana Bowman (27th, 22:25.2) all ran for the Lady Yoe.

 

The Cameron Junior High saw Nicholas Canizales (16:52.0), Kincaid Callahan (17:02.5) and Joseph Barbo (17:11.0) all run for the boys.  

 

The junior high girls had Elizah Garcia (44th, 15:53.4) and Daisy Osorio (46th, 16:00.2) both finish in the top 50 of a field of 184 runners.

All runners will be in the Florence Invitational this Saturday, October 1.  The Cameron Invitational will take place on Monday, October 10 at the Country Club.
